Connected Drive Subscription Shock

Had my car since November (5 months old approved used) but just activated the connected drive last month, after joining this forum and learning about the BMW remote services function. Most of the "control" functions are a gimmick IMO, but being able to send a destination to your Car is superb, and much quicker than directly via the Pro Nav!!
However just got a letter from BMW UK this week informing me that the subscription ends next month, and they would like to lighten my wallet by £120 to subscribe for another year.....what a rip off!!!
Anyone know if this is because I was not the original owner? (Doesn't appear to be but thought I'd ask on here to confirm)
If not, then shocking that a £2k professional navigation system doesn't come with a "lifetime of the car" subscription. As I've said the "send to car" function is great, but not worth £120 per year (likewise, none of the other online services seem worth the subscription, unless I'm missing something?).

Friend of mine bought a 2 year old E93 a few months ago and she hasn't had to pay for connected drive!

It's meant to last for the first 3 years of the car regardless i thought!

Remember the £120 includes a year's in car sim data usage and RTTI traffic. Cannot coment on change of ownership issue

Cheers. Just had another look on the connected drive website and found this in the FAQ...

In the case of vehicles with Navigation system Professional (option 609) and Navigation system Business (606) together with Bluetooth mobile phone with telematics (option 633/6NL) built in or after September 2008 (X5 and X6 October 2008, X3 September 2010) the BMW ConnectedDrive service package is free of charge for three years from the point of first activation. After the initial complementary period, use of the BMW ConnectedDrive services is subject to an annual subscription charge of £120.00 per year.

Having looked up my build type on bmwvin.com, have confirmed I have both 609 and 6NL so have emailed BMW asking them to look into this.

We got lucky with the Z4 as the first owner didn't activate it, so we got a 3 year subscription on a 18 month old car.

It's worth £120 if you use it regularly, definitely not if you don't... kind of obvious I suppose. A bit like a gym membership!

I was just about to post regarding this. I have a 3 year subscription so I am told. BMW sent me a link for registration which does not work. I had gone to the dealer and re-registered but BMW has yet to respond to this. I am finding it very confusing.

Do you have a tel no and email that I may use to contact BMW?

Thanks in advance

I have no Connecteddrive services anymore. Bloody marvellous. Awaiting a call tomorrow from the Connecteddrive team. A £2k system which no longer works.

Was this their attempt to get your iPhone working?

It worked perfectly on the 17th March. Then they sent me a link which did not work. It says 'key could not be found'. It was then downhill all the way.
Then I called them today and they could not access their website as it has been kaput for a few days/weeks. Because of this the person I spoke to said she was not able to access any information. Pretty crap if you ask me.

I just want my money back as the whole Pro Nav thing is horse shit IMO.

£120 for a year, no brainer! Use the concierge regularly whilst out and about. It's the envy of Land Rover and Porsche.

You definitely get 3 years free from the date of registration..

I bought mine 10months old and had no issue re-registering the connected drive to myself..

Definitely 3 years from first activation then the annual £120 per year for renewal and as someone else said earlier it does continue to give you RTTI then as well.
Just as an aside to this; I've got the "Internet" option on mine, cost me £95 when I ordered the car new and although I don't use it very much thought 'what the hell' considering all the other pro nav/multi-media stuff that was on the car. Anyway brochure says this service is only for the first 12 months then has to be renewed by subscription, it's wrong!......It's the same as connected drive and also lasts for 3 years then gets renewed within the connected drive renewal package.
Suppose the renewal subscription is probably worth it if you have a lot of the connected drive/internet/pro nav, etc options but maybe not if you only have one of them for instance?

Received an email from BMW today confirming it's free for the first 3 years, and apologising for the error and inconvenience, suggesting it may have been an automated email error.
I wonder if I'd sent off payment upon receipt of that letter, would I have received the same reply and refund??....

It's all working perfectly at long last. Did not have to do a thing as it came back by itself!Clever BMW. Got my new user name and password just now by SMS. And the car seems to ride beautifully and silently. Strange that and I am not imagining it. I now feel well connected to the road and to the web. I am at peace with the world.

The iPhone is fab but I still cannot get SMS or email. Not too worried or upset anymore.
I'll have a fiddle tomorrow when I get some time.
