Lockable trunk box for secret compartment?
Hi all,
I’m sure you’ve seen the secret compartment in you F30 trunk. Do you know of any company that makes a lockbox that fits neatly in that secret box area? I want to be able to put valuables, etc in it if needed. Thanks |

I'm sure you can measure the space and just get a safe on amazon.

There's a lockable compartment in the cabin. It's right in front of the front passenger seat. Bonus, if you open said lockable compartment, there's a lockout switch inside of it for the entire trunk.

I believe he is talking about the loading area underneath the carpeted panel. Nice spot to keepsome tools and portable compressor, illicit or high value items could for nicely in a small safe.

You can access the trunk through the center armrest even when the switch in the glovebox is in the lock position. You can reach in from there and lower both rear seats and pop the trunk with the emergency release.

As said earlier, you lift the floor of the trunk where there would normally be a spare in some cars and there is a storage space there.

Are you somehow securing this lock box in the “secret” compartment that literally anyone could find? Or would the thief just be taking the entire lock box with them after breaking into your trunk?

Someone once gained access to my car, jacked anything in plain sight or in the standard storage spaces. Lost some sunglasses, a flashlight, a pocket knife and some loose change. Thieves are typically going to try to get in and out as quickly as possible. If it takes more than a couple minutes to figure out, they're likely leaving it and taking off. They didn't even open my trunk, despite it not being locked. More noticeable/suspicious and more time before they can make their getaway. Or maybe they couldn't find the button in the dark. I also have the mini glove box on the driver's side next to the steering wheel. They didn't touch it; probably didn't even know it was there. If they had, they could've had my wallet. Anyways, my point is, there are ways to adequately secure items in the trunk from your run of the mill asshole breaking into cars. Sourcing, installing, and carrying a separate key is all probably moot. And the idea of a lockbox sounds appealing at first glance, but if I were a thief and found a lockbox in someone's car, I'm taking the whole box to try to open it somewhere private and secure, thanking the owner for making it plainly obvious that there's probably something of value inside and for consolidating it in a nicely packaged box. Would keep me from having to search the whole car.

Our Audi A4 has the same setup but it's bigger than the BMW so it can hold a full size M&P plus an extra mag or two. Like the BMW, it doesn't "jump out" at you when you look in the car so it's a pretty good feature IMO

I hope no one on these forums is lurking to find ways to break into another Bimmer and seek out these compartments. What a poor excuse for a human they would be.
