Total up all your mods=how much???

So if you add up all extra things you bought for your car how much would that be? It's crazy how much we spend on our vehicles. I bought my 2015 435i GC Gran Coupe with nearly every option and I didn't think I would mod it. I've only owned it for about 7 months but have done a few things most notably would be the vrsf charge pipe and fmic. Then of course there are the smaller mods. I've modded many cars in the past. Done engine swaps, supercharger installs, intakes, exhausts, suspension, wheels. I really thought I was done. I'm old now and just want to drive but mod bug bit again.

So here is my list in order of install date:

20% Window Tint: $225
Carbon Fiber License Plate Trim: $25
Molded Front Floor Mats: $85
Bimmer Code with adapter: $50
AFE Dry Filter: $65
Carbon Fiber Rear Spoiler: $150
Front Lip Spoiler: $105
Rear Diffuser: $150
M-Sport Valve Caps: $12
BMS Aluminum Oil Filter Cap: $65
VRSF Charge Pipe: $120
VRSF FMIC: $380

I'm only at $1432. I still want to add BM3 and a catted downpipe.

I'm not sure I'd run M-Sport valve caps without the kidney grill three bar color tape.

I (embarrassingly) have a fully broken down spreadsheet for personal records, but im at the $10-12k mark in terms of what I spent. If I were to buy all of my mods new at retail prices, it would be around the $18-20k mark. Ouch.

I got my car March 10th 2019 and until now, under 15 months of ownership, I have spent $16,399 on my car and this includes all the maintenance, mods, tune, tires, polish, wax... basically I have accounted for every single wipe that I used to clean the car down lol..

This also includes the front windshield that broke and I had no insurance, rear bumper fender bender that I had to pay for difference between the OEM bumper vs aftermarket, belly pan, etc.

And if fuel, for 15 months I am at $6949 fuel only, that's 33,716 miles.

Few thousand so far all on just simple things like the Bimmertech AMP, BAVSOUND Subs, Alcantara armrest 6WB digital Cluster, coding crap, additional LED floor lighting with remote, shit ton of trim then removed half of it (lol) Also installed that AVIN screen then decided to just go with an OEM 10.2" Infotainment screen instead. (sold AVIN screen) Now to start thinking about the exterior mods

Correction: Forgot I bought and installed that painted spoiler so I guess I did start the exterior mods hahaha!

Just under $4900.

Plan to do still:

This is going to stress me out but oh well.

Drivetrain

- VRSF DP, CP, FMIC $675

- Pipercross drop-in filter $39

- GFB DV+ $134

- Custom exhaust + BMS tips $265

- BM3 + licenses $645

- Custom Cary Jordan tune (including dyno time) $900

Suspension/Handling

- Dinan lowering springs + bumpstops $350

- Vörsteiner VFF-107s $2100

- Continental ExtremeContact Sport Tires $835

Cosmetic/Miscellaneous

- Ebay CF spoiler $95

- DIY BM3 wifi agent $72

- CF Vinyl wrapped interior $30

- Gloss black kidney grills $75

- Red stop/start button: $15

- Bimmercode + OBDII dongle $75

- Paddle shifter retrofit (paddles, harness, backing plate, wiring) $300

Purchased but not installed:

- Vinyl for roof wrap $130
- Caliper paint $20
- M2 axleback $300

Total: $7,085

And just out of curiosity I'll add in maintenance and labor:

Oil changes (2): $240
Transmission flush/filter: $800
DP, IC, CP install: $610
Springs install + alignment: $600
Bay rental for DV install: $345
Windshield cowl replaced: $55
Wipers replaced: $35
Front bumper respray and door gouge repaired: $1300

Grand Total (with labor + maintenance): $11,070

Paid ~$26k for the car. So roughly $37,000 for what should be an 11 second car that looks, drives, and sounds exactly the way I want. Not bad!

This really is a great platform for modding and despite doing all of this and driving the car hard it has been perfectly reliable so far. I spent roughly the same amount on my 04 WRX (bought and modified starting in 06) and that thing was an absolute nightmare -- something was always breaking or going wrong. Spent considerably less on my old built turbo B16 crx but again, breaking all the time. Super happy with this car so far!

This is why I am conscious on how much I spent... I bought my 428i GC for a reason.... 5k is my limit in mods but then again I already drove on stock for 2.5 years and it's time to refresh the look of the car... I'm buying wheels. After that my total so far is 3.2k still under my 5k budget.

Btw, tires not a mod unless you bought a tire when your old tire is still new. Mine is almost time to replace tires.... drove for 28k miles on them SSR RFT
