Something like this should fix the issue.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NIGO4NM..._E1qeBbF1SE5EB

For a luxury car in 2012-2015 to only have a 500mA charging port is unacceptable. By then plenty of phones with 2A charging were available and iPhones were all charging at 1A. 1A would have been more than sufficient.

Regardless, I will order this and try it out. You just have to plug one end into the USB port on the car, one end into a 12V USB adapter, and the other end into your lightning cable for your phone.

I just got a new cable from amazon and it’s working with no issues

https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerLi...LVL&ref=plSrch

I tried 3 Apple iPhone cables with my IPhone 7 Plus, and all were giving me the disconnect and reconnect issues.

I hope that helps!

Weak power from the console USB would explain why I started having these same problems from the beginning, starting with an iphone 5. With an 8+ i got the "this accessory is not supported" error all the time. I swapped cables, tried a new 30-pin to Lightning adapter, no change. So excess power draw explains everything.

I coded my car to activate BT audio and never looked back. The only downside to this is apparently you can never connect the phone to the USB again or the system will disable the BT audio, at least on my car as I had to re-code it afterwards. Solution for charging on a long trip is a USB adapter in the 12V socket.

With regards to the centre USB port,

I had the same issue, i brought new leads (genuine) from eBay well supposed to be genuine, but like every one stated one minute charging then not rapidly very very annoying.

I did purchase a new usb/aux port from bmw and changed that I also used a genuine lead out of the iPhone box and had no more issues. iPhone using by the way is a iPhone se.

USB

OMG, so annoying!! I'm getting angrier and angrier every day that there is no work-around to getting more power, even via an auxiliary cable connected to the lighter socket.

Although I can understand that a 2015 X3 might not support an iphone X, it's ridiculous that it also couldn't support my iphone 6 plus (my prior phone) that came out in 2014.

Pisses me off that I can't connect via USB to use Spotify app and search directly from the BMW console.

Spotify via bluetooth connection requires me to search via my phone, which requires me to unlock my phone while driving and to basically "text" while driving.

I'm sure this would work, but where do you plug in the 2nd USB? Only 1 port in the center console ( I believe)

Did this cable splitter solve the problem: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NIGO4NM..._E1qeBbF1SE5EB

I was thinking of running a separate usb cable from the cigarette lighter to the splitter. Would really like to get this working.

Sorry I never updated. No, it did not resolve the issue.

I am guessing there's some type of power negotiation happening before power is drawn.

I bought a cable to connect my phone directly to the head unit on the cell phone cradle cable but haven't gone in there to hook it up yet.

The easy fix is to just use a shorter cable.

For some crazy reason, the Anker Powerline + from Amazon is the ONE cable that has worked completely reliably in my 2014 BMW 328i. Bought it a month ago and NO issues with USB charging and music playback since then.

Can't explain it at all. But I bought the 3 foot one. I would have thought an official Apple cable would work better but I've been proven wrong so far.

I started using an Apple branded cable and now everything seems stable. Crazy.
