I asked the exact question before i bought this

The answers i got was
-clean regularly with tooth brush and water
-wear gloves
-wash hands and keep clean and dry

Seriously who can be bothered. Anyway the soft alcantara look is gone. What happens is all the oils/sweat/dirt off your hands build up in the pours of the material. So the look has changed. It still feels soft and great in my hands. Its not like its worn out, just looks smooth

I would purchase high quality tape from lowes or walmart. Don't use the tape that comes in the box.

Yes agree 100%. I'd reiterate that although it doesn't look 'bad' and still feels smooth, the alcantara look is unmistakeably gone.

I have now ordered an all leather version. So I'll be guinea pig to remove an existing cover for replacement. Let's see how it goes.

I'd expect alcantara to lose it's texture over time. I put a regular leather cover on mine two years ago, it still looks new.

Would you be able to provide any pics of the current state of the wheel?

Thanks,

Installed mine today, went well but not COMPLETELY perfect. A couple of small bumps in the top middle area which I suspect is rumpled tape. Also think I pulled the thread a little too tight on the top portion. Much easier to pick out the imperfections in the picture than in person.

Overall very happy, and consider it well worth the money.

Ordered an all leather version for backup and in case the company goes out of business. Took about 4 hours total.

My pic won't help you mate.

Early on, I made the mistake of trying to swab out a spot of super glue with acetone. That left an irremovable smudge that stuck out. So I had to polish the entire front facing surface with acetone to even it out. As a result, the front face looks far smoother than it would by normal wear.

Looking at the side surface though, I can see the natural smoothing I referred to in my earlier post. But it won't show in a pic.

Maybe x328x can take a pic. He is after all this thread's OP and gets credit for the rest of us getting this cover.

I got my all leather version in the mail today. So tomorrow is rip-out-old-cover-and-stitch-stitch-stitch day

Installed the new cover today. Removing the old cover was a breeze. The thread cut easily with a pair of scissors. It took maybe 4 minutes to take it off.

Remove the airbag was annoying as always. Finding that notch to unlatch the airbag fittings is like picking a lock. Took me around 20 minutes to get it off, including removing the 3 screws that hold the wheel cover in place.

Thereafter came the slow and painful activity of sewing. Despite having done it once before, it still took me 4 hours total from beginning to end. Got a fright halfway through when the thread on the cover snapped while tugging, but I managed to sew over it fairly well (wonder if anyone can tell where that happened).

This time, judicious use of tape ensured absolutely no rumps or ridges whatsoever. I don't think I could've done any better.

After months of suede, the all-leather cover feels nice and grippy!

Looks 100 times better than the first attempt.

Perfect actually.

Thread must have broke at 7-8 O'clock on the wheel but I'm sure no one will notice.

Great configuration.
