Strange that they're two piece discs but the hat appears to be coated! Bit pointless if they're aluminium.

Possibly so, it states they are 2 piece though, maybe easier to coat all than just part ?

Do you think these will have the same issues as the brembo originals (ring like a bell)

I’m pretty certain it’s the fixed calipers that cause the squealing.

Same thinking... we see bonded pads being used on the G3x models, which no doubt is to reduce brake squealing. Reduce the vibrations which contribute to brake noise.

Just a heads up guys. Ordered those TRW discs from www.autodoc.co.uk who are in Berlin and have cancelled it.

They were asking for a scan copy of my driving license and a scan copy of my credit card with some of the numbers on the card covered and last 4 uncovered so that they could process the order. Now call me paranoid but that is just too much information in my book & sounded odd.

They asked for the information by email but never responded to clarify why they wanted it when I asked questions. I eventually spoke to them and they just said we need that information to process the order, it is secure and will be deleted after.

I have email cancelling and confirming refund will be sent, so let's see what happens.

I went through the same process and everything was fine, transaction was couple of months ago and there have been no fraudulent transactions.

I can see where you're coming from in terms of paranoia in this day and age though, when they contacted me they said it was for the anti fraud checks and I knew they were a german company from the off.

Similar to the benefits of anti-squeal compounds.

Pad backing plates have adhesive film. After fitting, the brake pedal needs pressure to compress the pads for a minute or so, to 'fix' the bond to the caliper pistons.

Definitely used to reduce 'noise interference'.

Vibrations which may arise from movement between the pad backing plate and brake piston are prevented thanks to the rigid connection of the brake pad to the brake piston.

I see. I guess this means the G series will require different, more expensive pads!

Yep they’ve got 3M VHB sticky pads on the back of the G30 M Sport front pads!

Same company, different name.

I've found some in the UK so will order from them, but thanks.

So the brake pads will be bonded to the caliper pistons with 3M VHB tape? How on earth will one remove the brake pads then? VHB lives up to it's name...

BMW's exact words...

Quote:
The bonded connection between the brake piston and pad backing plate must not be separated with a hammer or screwdriver, but only with a plastic wedge, so as not to damage the brake caliper.

Well...I'd like to see anyone try that. The reason the VHB tape can lift heavy loads is that the adhesive is not just on the surfaces of the tape, but all the way through it. And even if one does manage to split the tape, it will be a hell of a job getting the adhesive off the pistons to apply the new pads...

The pistons are just rings, so not much surface area. Plus the thousands of heat cycles, plus water, salt, cleaning chemicals etc. will surely have broken down the adhesive somewhat.

Just a little bit of advice about autopartspro.co.uk in Berlin, Germany (and their other websites).

I ordered brembo discs and pads (front & rear) for my 2014 320d ED.

After taking the money (came out of my account), I received an email 4 hours later asking for photo ID etc, just like the other poster here. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I basically told them that they will not be receiving any photo ID from me as the payment had been taken meaning there were no payment issues as they were trying to imply, and if they wish to delay the order any longer I wanted a refund immediately.

The next day, I received an email, saying the payment had magically gone through and dispatch was imminent.

It took 24 hours to be dispatched, and were delivered to a garage of my choice on Tuesday 8th May, after the Bank Holiday. I ordered them on 1st May.

That was still a decent turnaround considering they were in Germany, but I had already arranged a garage to install the brakes, and change the fluids on the Tuesday. My car was dropped off at 9am, and the items arrived at 1:30pm.

After reading some reviews on Trustpilot, it appears that the photo ID is a delaying tactic, and so is the DPD dispatch email, as the first notification is merely the shipment registering with DPD. It took a full 24 hours to actually be dispatched.

Luckily, it all worked out for me, and I saved around £250.

Good luck
