Take 3 -- Electric Water Pump and Aux Water Pump + Thermostat will FAIL at only 50k - 65k miles due to cheap unreliable electronics!! Units are buried down near the turbo. Wonder if it gets really really hot down there? F$%## BMW M#$%# F$%$$ F$%####.

UPDATE: Another $2400 on fire. (covered under Aftermarket Warranty except the Coolant Flush???)

UPDATE2: OVERHEATED on the highway with the Engine Oil Temp hitting 300deg F!!!
SA: A hose came loose that we forgot to tighten. Another Coolant top off and bleed on us. No Charge... Sorry Not Sorry.

NOTE: B58 engine has a mechanical water pump. Plus the intercooler is built into the intake on top of the engine. ..plus a forged crankshaft.
B58 better or worst than a N55.

At least I got to walk by the new Porsche Dealership that opened May 1st 2020. Four Times!!! 911 GT3 or Macan Turbo??

Embarrassing when your 12 year old E90 M3 with 190k miles is more reliable than a "new" 2015 F30 335i M-Sport at 60k miles.

Cheers

Double HULK and double MAD.

The fault codes for the F30 335i engine and maybe others are:

20A701 Water pump speed cannot be controlled by the DME
20A804 Water Pump is turned off by the DME (blocked)

For the E9X 335i the codes in the video are:

2E81 Water pump speed cannot be controlled by the DME
2E82 Water Pump is turned off by the DME (blocked)

There is an extended Warranty on the thermostat for the N26...so it is a free repair. Not sure if the N55 has the same thermostat extended warranty. Water pump fails at 50k - 65k miles like clock work. I don't think BMW upgraded the water pump electrical design to make it more reliable. That would make too much sense.

The fault code explanations are the same. Electrical problems inside the electric water pump. You will get an engine hot and overheating warning. Then a CEL will appear the next time you start the car. Also look for the engine oil temp gauge to stay at 150deg F and not move or it will rise to 250 deg F and above. Normal temp is about 210-220 deg F (around 100 deg C)

Engine drive moderately warning will put your car into limp mode and there will be little to no power with the turbo OFF. Pull over right away. Avoid the highway at all cost.

Excellent cinematography and extreme closeups. E9X 335i water pump and thermostat replacement is similar to the F30 335i.

More pop culture references. Ernest Goes to Camp. Official Trailer is unavailable. Earl, Ernest..close enough.

So the simple solution involves some excellent products from Earl's Performance Plumping (owned by Holley), Mr. Gasket, or Russell Performance (owned by Edelbrock). Earl's AN braided hose is called Speed-Flex.

5-6 feet of AN stainless steel (or black) 1/4" or 5/16", or 3/8" ID hose, and some hose clamps/fittings that are covered by aluminum red/blue anodized fittings is the hypersonic solution I was looking for. Plus they make hose hold downs in metal/rubber or billet aluminum.

Check the Summit Racing or JEGS websites.

NOTE: The F3X N55 fittings with the C-clips are the same as the E9X N55 ends that uses a rubber hose and clamp with a plastic center line that cracks. You can remove the end fitting from a used E9X N55 hose part to make the AN braided hose for the F3X N55, so it uses the same C-clip.

Another option is a stainless steel or nickel/copper hard line...but the flange ends to mate with the BMW fittings will be a challenge.

Not that expensive versus the defective BMW OEM plastic PoS line that will fail again.

Hopefully I can find a Speed Shop in LA to make the AN braided hose.

MacGyvered!!

Cheers

Thx for this heads-up. Ordered one OE part to keep in the back. Low miles but 6+ years old.
