Easy way to check if you have N20 or B48 is to open oil filler plug and look there. If you see timing chain, you got N20.

BMW offers M Performance sound and power kit for 335i and 340i and even for 320d but not for 320i or 328i for some reason. Maybe they don't trust N20 can handle additional power?

Maybe lol but the 328 seems to be doing fine pushing out 250 or so, (I know different pistons and compression), but other than that I feel like the 320 should be about to put 210 220 with no issues, it's a turbod 2.0 for God's sake

When I throw it to S trans it just gets a bit more aggressive. Did a pull and I do feel a small jolt in between gears, but I can also kind of feel that in Sport auto.

Tried timing the 0-60 manually for the first time got 6.4 (pretty rough), will download an app to do better testing. Fully stock.

I have a very similar car as yours, a 2018 320i xdrive N20 (pretty much the last batch of N20s I think). I have BM3 stage 1 for about 2k miles and without noticable issue, although I never logged or WOT, just normal daily driving to work or weekend errands. Btw I also have XHP stage 3 TCU tune.
Personally I wouldn't go anything more than a stage 1, and I am runing the 91oct map with 93oct gas. Fingers crossed.

I have the BM3, TCU flash on my N20 320i and it says exactly like yours with the S1 when i flip it over to the left, and if i start shifting in Manual mode it says M1, M2 etc. Just curious why i don't get the Sport + on my display though, like ThicF30 did on his YT vid of the flash, i even pressed the sport button twice..??

And just curious why your tuned with BM3, Stg1 on 91 and not 93?. I was thinking of doing that myself, but it cuts the HP's down abit, maybe by 10-15hp or so. I instead did the Torque By Gear Reduction from 1st & 2nd..Also i have been data logging and using screen recordings of my runs around Mexico (wink, wink). My AFR's so far are steady and consistent around 14's..

Hey, just to satisfy my curiosity, i just reflashed it for stock stage 1 91Oct vs the 93 i had, i still kept the same burble settings and everything else including the TBG(R%) 1st (30%), 2nd (20%), 3rd-6th (0%). Seems fine so far, can notice the drop in HP and TQ but it's not alot as i thought it would be...

I am running stage 2 on 93 octane (100 RON Shell V-power Racing all the time tbh) resulting in 270 whp and 380nm tq to the wheels on my 320i n20 for last 20k miles without issues (with a FMIC, catless DP and a custom exhaust). Got my car serviced today - oil - and checked by the BMW service. They said that the car is perfectly fine and in a great condition . You care more when tuned for your car, don't you? .

I don't get it why you are guys worried. The headroom for this engine seems to be 450nm to the wheels which I would call stage 3.. Just look at the VW's 2.0 TSI pushing 300hp stock.

My tune is custom but my tuner concurred with me that catless dp is enough for that kind of power in terms of exhaust. 3 inch exhaust might be a little bit better but neglectable below 300 whp. I just did it for the sound aesthetics.

After that FMIC helped the most as it pushed IAT from 60+ Celcius degrees to below 30 degree under the load (WOT). I would say that is crucial to keep it cool in the cylinders and their heads . My gains from the FMIC where around 30 whp and 80nm wtg just because the DME was pulling timing and the limiters were stopping the power to rise.

Besides that the best fuel I can find, 0w40 oil and an oil flush every change - I am babying her and she is giving some love back . Plugs and coils when needed and I am keeping the train rollin'.

Ya I am babying mine too lol. I want to go Stage 2 but don't want any blown engine cause I'd be stuck driving a 99 civic if that happened.

I hope this is true, lol. I do like the turbo whooshing sounds i get when i am on it and can hear those nice upshifts with the TCU flash as well. I will admit i do get some droning when under 1500 rpms, especially in Comfort mode, next week i will try to code out the Active Sound and see if that fixes it, but gawd love the burbles in just the S modes (stick over left, lol)

Here are my settings on custom burbles:

Seconds/Duration: 2.5
Aggressiveness: 4.5

i don't think this is true, as mine was blown while using custom exhaust, armytrix downpipe
i believe it is related more to the engine capability to handle more power and torque from remap

Sorry for late response.
I use 93oct gas on a 91oct tune because I want to leave more conservative margin. Tbh I cannot sense any difference in power between the 91ct and 93 oct tunes using my butt dyno lol.

I use 93oct gas on a 91oct tune because I want to leave more conservative margin. Tbh I cannot sense any difference in power between the 91ct and 93 oct tunes using my butt dyno lol.
Same here on that tune, and really i think, butt literly it feels better for my car lately, the 93 tune was maybe abit too much low torque for it to be smoother than it is now, good feedback from this 91 tunes..

same experience
previously i use OCT 93, feel little lag on the low-mid torque
switch to OCT 91, the low-mid torque feel better and more responsive now

I'm sort of in the same boat (and under warranty for 20 more months).

If a stock 320i is literally the same motor, minus pistons, as a 328i (N20) why would bringing up the boost to 328i numbers do damage to the motor? Obviously people who mod their cars rarely stop at a tune...but are there really blown motors on N20 that people brought up from a measly 8psi factory boost and didn't do other mods? Can the 320i actually only handle 8psi? If so what's the reason for that?

I have a 2016 bmw 320i xdrive in mineral grey. It has about 47k miles on it and out of warranty now. I think I'm finally ready to jump on bm3 stage 1 but this thread is kind of scaring me. Is the N20 engine really not capable of handling the extra power? Would a jb+ or dinantronics piggy back be easier on the engine? I love my car and would hate for the engine to blow all for a few extra horsepower. Will I be fine with stage one if I just upgrade my charge pipe and boost pipe? Thanks guys
