What might one expect to pay all in for a B58 swap into an F31?

It's not cheap by any means, especially not the route we chose to go as our title to this car actually states station wagon 340i. Something that took a year to get done with a state but in the end, it was a success. But I do not have price for this as this has been an ongoing and very deep project, but I would say 60-70k?

Im looking more for a price to install a B58 motor into a 328 F31. What i can expect to pay for the engine and labor to install.

I'm looking to do something like this as well but from a 328d to a euro 335d, i have a source overseas where i can get all the mechanical parts but the only thing holding me back is the wiring and electrical. my main issues I've run into are, the main wire harness plug that goes from the ecu into the cabin through the firewall has a different plug from the 4cyl to the 6 cyl models and getting the ecu programmed to my car if that's even possible? i believe they are vin locked?

Any thoughts on what just an engine swap (B58 into an N20) would cost ? I have an F31 and not looking to do anything other than an engine swap

Usually way easier and cheaper to sell and buy a new car.

$60-70k was estimated for the swap, in this case. Other than the engine and labor, where are the other major costs involved (parts, etc.)?

Yeah..
Are you thinking you'd be doing the labor yourself or paying someone?

I've got some Race Ramps and a 3 ton jack. I'm guessing that'll get the job done, right? Nah... independent shop.

I'd imagine you could budget it with the right shop for under 25k.. but it could easily go way out of control. Really the best way to get an idea would be to reach out to some shops and get quotes. You'll likely find vastly different prices etc

Thanks. I appreciate the input. If the G81 came to the states, I'd never consider a swap. Just seems like a fun idea in the future.

Don't worry about going into deep details, but is it usually a pain to get the DME to communicate properly. I don't have any experience doing swaps. Knowing a 340 F31 exists (Europe, etc.), I'd assume that might make it somewhat easier? Again, I have no idea. So then I ask, what about the S58? I'd assume the cost-to-benefit starts to drop (B58 to S58), and only makes sense if I'm wanting to push it to levels that reduce reliability.

There are quite a few 335 wagons (n55) here in the metro Detroit area.. even more n54 e-series wagons.. I say that Luke they are super common but there are enough that you can run into them on a rare occasion at a show or a meet etc.. its pretty damn cool and I'd love to have f31 b58 car, it would be cool af

Has no one done a B58 swap into an F31 yet ? Im not looking to do a full M3 wagon conversion like some others have. Im just considering an engine swap. Trying to get a ballpark for the cost of a donor car/engine and labor

Was it difficult to get the BAR sticker in SoCal for the engine swap?
