New Wheels/Tires Slight Rubbing
So I just installed 19x8.5 all around with 235/40s and i'm slightly rubbing. I only noticed it when I was in reverse with the wheel turned a certain amount. I didn't think i'd be anywhere close. I'm wondering what will happen once I put my ACS springs on. I never thought i'd be dealing with rubbing.

As you have f36, you are sort of on your own, but not surprised given the f32 posts. Unfortunately you listened to some posters in another thread who confused 18” and 19” tires, giving bad info along the way. X Drives 4 series have less room if various others who have made that mistake are to be believed. Last edited by IK6SPEED; 07-15-2018 at 06:04 PM.. |

Now I'm totally confuse too as I have 428i GC FR, I was on the market for some 437m wheel (staggered of course). All this confusing information...now at least you have a picture to prove it regardless its an X-drive.

Well it just barely rubs under a specific set of conditions so right now I can easily live with it. The question is, will it rub worse when its lowered on ACS? I'm hoping not since the diameter of the tire is staying the same it's just sitting a bit lower.

It’s not a huge problem. I just took it out and did some hard cornering and braking to test and I couldn’t get it to rub. It only rubs on the drivers side as the passenger side is a different fender well due to the intercooler

Just curious, what offset are the wheels and what brand of tires? I'm running MP4S 245/45r18(26.7") on 8.5et35 with no issues on my F30, granted there is less than a finger gap between the tire and the fender liner with the wheel turned.

19x8.5 ET35 Goodyear Eagle F1 AS2. Again it's only that driver inner fender which I will probably just heat up and push a couple mm back and the tire will clear fine.

its only going to rub long enough for that fender well liner to wear down enough to the point it no longer makes contact. The fact that it is inside and you could easy file it down to not rub makes this really a none issue.

Finally! I'm as OCD as the next guy, if this was rubbing constantly I wouldn't deal with it. I just hope there's nothing new once I put my springs on.

i can only assume you would rub in the same spot just higher up on the fender liner.

I've heard about this before in other posts. You have the wrong size tires on your car. Plain and simple. I've got to say this...take them off. If you hit a sizable imperfection in the roadway at speed you may have a serious safety problem...like steering issues. When it comes to your own safety and your family's safety don't chance it.

19X8.5 225/40 for the front 19X9.5 255/35 for the rear I never have any rubbing issues and I am on coil overs. I'm also running a 10mm spacer for the front and with or without the spacer still never had any rubbing. UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_2fe0 by , on Flickr thumbnail by , on Flickr |
