Why? Why? Why? A 2 door coupe. A 4 door sedan. What do you need this for? I would buy a wagon (x-drive) as a better handling, better performing, just as useful, crossover SUV. But this GT is just an abomination. Just like the other GT's. They are a styling failure. They are ugly. Anybody remember Chevy Citation? They aren't selling. Why is BMW continuing down this dead end road. You have to have something really good going on to justify an ugly car. This has nothing going on other than the marginally useful hatchback thing going on, but most people who want that would be better served by a full on touring wagon. And it would look better. These things are horrendous looking.

I hope all the new 3/4 series don't have that vent/side applique feature...
I'm probably not the target market for the GT but that side design element is terrible looking. PepBoys has better looking stick-ons than that.

I think you guys are really over-reacting. The US has never liked hatch backs and in fairness to the rest of the world, they are globally rather popular.
I think its a well resolved design apart from the strange vent on the side (and this will be on the coupe too) and looks both sporty and elegant in both trims and certainly more distinctive than the saloon. It has a coupe roofline and has good proportions. Of course it is a 'niche' model and that is necessary because all the big german brands are so popular now, they are no longer exclusive like they used to be. And let us remember, the reason this is happening is because of customer demand - if you think a world manufacturer goes into producing this kind of vehicle without the necessary research you are kidding yourself. Did people say this about the CLS when it came out ? Some thought is looked like a bannana, but in the end, it proved highly successful and is the most distinctive of all Mercs ! |

Way too many models. Is BMW trying to mimic GM from the 1990s?
I'd like to be a fly on the wall in BMW's engineering department these days. I bet some of the core group is not liking what's going on. |

I think the US needs to understand that CHINA will be the leading auto market in the near future. Not all cars developed are designed with the US in mind at all. I personally hate the car and cant understand the fender vent at all. I would much rather just buy a touring with the same luggage capacity and better handling. That said. It is designed well and the rear looks great. Much better proportions than the honda crosstour.

I actually like the proportions of the 5GT a bit better.
Seems a bit strange there is no designation the trunk for 328i or 335i? The closest competition to this is obviously the F25 X3. That model looks much better, to my eyes. And will be the more popular choice in the US, probably 20:1. |

I've made my decision last night, and this only solidifies it..... If my next car is a small premium sedan, it will be the F30. If I want a wagon, i will go Audi a4/s4/ god willing rs4.

Another Yank hater here
But agree with what others have said, this car is clearly not targeted for the US market.

Shouldn't this car be MY2014? 2013s (in the US, at least) have been on sale for several months now. By the time the GT is actually ready for sale, it should coincide with the MY2014 change, let's say in July 2013?
