Seems like some BMW dealers significantly reduced the number of CPO cars

Last year I was in the market for a CPO 3 series, then because of personal reasons, I held off buying. Now I'm back in the market and I notice some of the same dealers who previously had a large selection of CPO cars now have very few. When I asked why I pretty much got the same answer from them - that the resulting price increase for basically a 1 year warranty is not worth it to most people. They said they would rather sell at a lower price and give the option of adding a warranty, if desired. I thought it was a mistake for BMW to reduce the warranty from 2 to 1 year. I wonder if the number of CPO cars (nationwide) has actually gone down as a result or is it just at a few dealers?

Has the CPO been reduced back to 1 year recently?

The Dealer decides if they want to CPO the vehicle, not BMW.

There are certain qualifications upfront and then a detailed inspection process (so they claim) to pass CPO certification. Any issues must be corrected.

i3

My dealership in Seattle all of a sudden can't keep a CPO i3 in stock. In fact, they deleted their dedicated i3 CPO category on their webpage. Could just be inventory, or gas prices, but either way, I'm sure it's a number of variables.

Good luck with your search!

You can try looking for a non CPO still under new car warranty and extend it.

It depends on the dealership. Mine told me that they generally add $4k to the cost of a car to add the CPO (Don't think they can control that because money must go to BMW since they are the ones that pay for any warranty work). My dealer won't sell any cars that don't have part of the original warranty left on it, and won't sell anything that couldn't pass the CPO check, they just don't make a ton CPO because it's harder to sell at the higher price for the market we must live in.

The price was $1600 2 years ago. I seriously doubt it’s $4k. He might tell you that....but that doesn’t mean squat.

If they are telling you that BS, I’d find a new Dealer.

3 series car sales have declined in the last couple of years as many buyers waited for the new version. So there may be fewer cars coming back to be cpo'd.

LCIs were just introduced 3-4 years ago and are now coming off lease.

Sales of 3 series LCI 3 years ago were very strong.

Probably because it is the best version of the F30 with lots of improvements. I'm super happy with mine.
