Any update?
I found this fault code on my car and i think is related: Fault Code: 80518A Fault Explanation: Dosierleitungsheizung, Control: Open circuit (DTC UHCPLOLDurCtl, Pin 6) According to Google, Dosierleitungs heizung translates to "metering, heating" In ISTA+ on fault description I have: The metering line heater is monitored. The fault is identified if the conductance of the heating drops below the lower limit value. Lower limit value: 0 1/Ohm And on Action in Service: Check the metering line heater using the test module. Check wires and plug connections 3. Measure resistance of metering line heater If necessary, renew metering line heater. Delete the SCR and DME fault memory. The Check Control message is only reset by the SCR control unit following trouble-free diagnosis. For this purpose, run the engine for a minimum of three minutes until the Check Control message disappears. Then once again delete the fault memory. The SCR control unit is not faulty. Anyone know where exacly is the metering line heater? I'm unable to identify it |

Apparently the set point value of the metering line heating resistance is supposed to be 3.83 - 5.18 Ohm Wires: Blue with white tracer for signal, brown for ground. The ground source is Z10*7B (a comb plug attached to the right side of rear seat backrest below C pillar area) then it all goes through plug connector X1276*1B, and then plug E132*1B

For me at least, the update is that it appears I need to replace the metering line. Checking the connections for resistance shows an open circuit, i.e. a break in the heating element itself. My tech is going to look at the procedure on the F25 X3, maybe it can be fished out without dropping the rear subframe but in the TIS the subframe drop is called out as necessary. The line runs around the diesel tank at least.
The heater is integral to the line. I assume that the heater runs the majority of the length of the line if not all the way - the line appears to be insulated right up to the connection at the metering module itself. The diagnostic test involves checking the connections reference in the post above. |

FWIW, the last time my X3d was at the stealership for an unrelated recall fix, they gave me a quote of ~$1400 to replace the SCR metering line.
I opted to pass.

Yea seems like a DIY or independent mechanic thing for sure. I'll report back when/if I take any action on it.

The part was under $300 at dealer cost, it's around that price online retail too. The line was maneuverable without dropping the X3's subframe, but instead I'm told the fuel tank was dropped or lowered to allow for the swap. With this method I was charged about 4-5 hours of labor. So all in all not bad versus the $1400 dealer quote mentioned before, about half that with an independent. Two days later, still no check engine light, so I'm happy. Plus we're dipping into freezing weather here soon so I needed to get this done. |
