Not saying a new 997TT is affordable, but I think a BMW in that realm would be more sought after. Just my two cents, I know everyone has different views.
i can see what you mean. a 911 competitor; a legitimate thoroughbred sports car could be fantastic!

Maybe we have it all wrong and it will be the LFA V10 engine stuffed into the i8 chassis, with some additional weight reduction from all the CFRP tech Toyota inveted as part of creating the LFA

What sometimes gets lost in the noise is that BMW, like any corporation, is in the business to make money. This takes dancing a fine line, and they seem to have been doing that well, if you look at their profits and sales figures. It is not in the market to always cater to the fringes, unless that benefits the whole. Sometimes a halo car gets people to consider a brand that they had not previously, even if they have no chance to be able to buy it...the association with it is enough for some.

So, I'll just sit back and see what happens - I buy my cars based on if they meet my needs, not by the factory they come out of.

I'll look forward to watching Chris Harris drive this thing, although I'd be more excited if they were working on something in the price range I could afford to drive myself...

I thought so, too, but it seems to be the direction all supercar manufacturers are taking these days. Heck, the 918 spyder timed sub 7 min on the Nurburgring.

Uhh... a sub Z4 sports car. Which the 2er is not going to be, and was never meant to be.

Toyota joining with any good car brand in order to produce a "sports-like" vehicle is an ultimate fail. What do they know about a sports car? Secondly what of their electronics is useful besides the hybrid aspect of a Prius?

I just hate the fact that hybrid is now an option on alot of cars and future car and concepts. We wouldn't have a gas crisis or any problems with the environment if we just took the license away from the dumb idiots who should be nowhere near operating a vehicle. /rant.

Lightbulb LFAi8V8

I was wondering if any of the i8 will be used as the structure of this joint venture?

This is exactly the point. It is well understood that with current battery technology the total weight of the battery-electric/electric motor hybrid drivetrain makes far less power per pound than a conventional ICE powered drivetrain.
