Why do you have to live or have lived in a place to know what it's like?

I have not lived in Huntingdon, St Neots, Wallsend, umpteen dozen places around Birmingham but I know how shit they are.

As for Luton, it was main trooping centre (air port) with accommodation at Stanbridge.

Also Luton was not a place to be in uniform, which was a problem with it being in close (ish) proximity to Henlow and Chicksands.

One of my definitions of a shit hole is when you cannot feel safe in your own country.

Yep, agree with that. Stayed in the area a few times after various tours. Made me wish I was back on ops (and ironically, some of the locals on ops were friendlier).

The definition of a shit hole is if it was carpet bombed by B52's, would it improve the place? Luton; yes.
