Help, unknown issue with dashboard.

Hello, I am a new owner to a 2016 328I

twice now at the same location on an off ramp from a highway after driving on said highway for about 40 minutes. My dashboard turns off, no rpm/gas/speed/heat. everything does black for about 3 seconds and them everything turns on like its resetting and goes back to normal for another 5 seconds and does the process again. This happens for minutes. the car does not change its attitude and still works as it did before. the Idrive is also unaffected. any ideas what I should do or what this issue might be?

Why it's doing that I can't say, but it shows why having an OBD diagnostic tool is a must. My experience: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...2#post23288222

does using that void any warranty? I think this issue should be covered by the under 50k mile warranty but Im not sure to im bringing the issue here 1st to see if its necessary to bring it to the dealer

It doesn't void warranty. It may save you making a trip to the dealer. If you're away from home having one in your car can save you massive headaches. I don't leave home without mine.
If you don't have one you have no choice but to go to the dealer.

If it's under warranty just take it to the dealer. It could be something simple, like one of the connectors behind the speedo assembly is loose. It's very easy to remove the Speedo and check the connectors.

Yes, if something's broken. An OBD diagnostic will tell you if there's a problem, and if there isn't you can clear codes without going to a dealer. That's key if the car throws a false positive code that limits operation and you're on the road with no dealer nearby.

I'm just thinking that perhaps one of the three plugs in the back of the instrument cluster could be slightly loose. If so, it's very easy to fix if you follow the video I linked.
