I've read about a few people getting drivetrain malfunction codes w/ stage 2 that seems to be ultimately related to a "too little boost" type error, possibly fixed that?

My n20-ewg also showed a new OTS tune available but it remained 4.5. Might have just been a bug or something that made all the old maps look like they were new for some reason.

Just had my '14 328i - xdrive dyno'd. Stage 1 tune with a VRSF charge pipe, otherwise bone stock. Made 248.9 horsepower and 302.76 torque with the front drive shaft disconnected, tech said you could probably add about 10 to both of those numbers. VERY pleased with Bootmod3 stage one!

dyno run (bootmod3 vs Turbo Transformer)

I have a 2015 328i (n20) and I recently put my car on the dyno. I have a piggy back tune that's called "Turbo Transformer" and can easily turn on/off though my phone. That being said, I also purchased BM3 and went stage 1 91 octane. On the day of the dyno, I flashed tuned my car completely back to stock and did a couple pulls leading up to "turbo Transformer" and then to BM3. I was surprised a $169.99 piggy back tune gave me about the same results as a $595 flash tune (BM3). Here are my results.

Great job man. I think you are the first to compare a piggyback and BM3 back to back (someone correct me if I am wrong).

I have a TT on my B48 and swear by it; just an awesome product. I am on the fence about BM3; I really want one but after seeing your chart, I think I may pass.

Did you consider stacking the flash tune and piggyback?

No, too afraid to do that, plus I didn't have time to grab 93 octane.

No I don't blame you - nice gains nevertheless. Thanks for sharing.

interesting but also shocking result
as how $169 provide almost identical (if not better) result to $595 tune
the hp is better on the piggyback, thats amazing

Not surprised tbh, in the end boost is what makes the lions share of hp, and the piggybacks do exactly that. BM3 obviously offers more then that, but if its just a bump in hp that you are looking for, piggybacks are made for that.

nah, i use JB4 before, and throwing error code, and the throttle lag etc
especially where i drive, where i only move 5 feet in 15 mins and stuck in the traffic for 1 hours, piggyback is bad choice

Thanks for sharing your dyno results too! Pretty surprised to see 231 whp stock. I think before your graph the highest dyno I'd seen of a stock n20 was about 221 whp. Also interesting to compare your torque gains to mine, my car was pulling 302.76 lb/ft of torque but only 248.9 hp to your ~280/~260. Maybe a difference between the DynoJet used for my dyno and what your shop was using?

It is RECOMMENDED to add a charge pipe.

If you are also adding a down pipe, check out this article: https://bmwtuning.co/bmw-n20-tuning-guide/

You'll be most of the way to a stage 2 tune, so you may as well grab 1-step colder spark plugs (you can do that one pretty easily yourself, I'm about engine illiterate and managed to do it in about 90 minutes). You should probably also add a front mounted intercooler. Then you can just go all the way to stage 2.

Stock plugs are good enough for the n20/n26, no need to go colder. BM3 recommends the stock plugs (ngk 97506) gapped at .022 - .023 for stage 2

Other than part vendors(non-tuning vendors) and folklore who is recommending adding a charge pipe to the N20/N26 or B46/B48? I never heard of anyone blowing a charge pipe on this platform with a stock turbo.

Save your money.

The only other person I know outside of the board *who tuned his car* blew up his charge pipe running a stage 1 tune on an n55 and my tuning shop tells me they see a lot of charge pipes blowing up, even on non-tuned cars.

Agreed, the N55 had a defect, even stock, with the charge pipe due to the pressure they were running. Anyone running that engine should replace their charge pipe. However, that issue did not translate to the N20/26 or B46/B48. Fear from the N55 drove the myth that the 4-cyl turbo engines needed the charge pipe replaced as well. But as I mentioned you won't find anyone running N20/26 or B46/B48 engines with a stock turbo to have blown a factory charge pipe. Isn't enough pressure.

Mmm maybe cause I have an intake? Not too sure how much of a difference that would make
