Generally, you do not get new features with new firmware, only bug fixes, but on occasion you do. Many people now are flashing NBT Units to the new iDrive 4.2 firmware, which adds many things.

Flashing is needed too though when adding a used ECU to the vehicle to write car VIN to it.

I believe after change vo, the code ecu procedure just reset the ecu setting to default values. It is not flashing firmware. Am I right?

You can modify FA and VO Code and FDL Code with Lite Version. Full version is needed ONLY for flashing new firmware onto ECU's.

I don't know e-sys can even flashing ecu's firmware. Always think only ISTA could do this.

No, you can program (flash) individual ECU's or the entire car with E-Sys and full PSdZData.

Ok. I-Step (current) is F020-13-07-505 which is same for (last) and (shipment).
