Turbo took a dump on me
Just info for the collective...
2015 328i, almost 81,000 miles, all oil changes done at between 5k and 7k intervals. Some spirited driving but mostly regular in town stuff. It started making a whistling noise a few weeks ago. Sounded like something was sucking air. Pitch would vary but wasn't dependent on RPM's. The noise would start at around 4k RPM if I was accelerating. No noise while revving engine with vehicle parked. I didn't notice any huge difference in performance but it had seemed as though there was a slight difference in acceleration at times. Took it in yesterday and this morning got a call that it was the turbo and that it's going to be replaced under the "super ultra low emissions vehicle warranty". I'm glad I don't have to pay for it, but not so happy to have a turbo charger need to be replaced at under 81k... |

Sometimes parts break. Turbocharger failure isn't particularly common, but it does happen and usually doesn't indicate an issue with anything else. If you got it replaced under warranty, then you're good to go as it was done for free. You have a brand new turbocharger in your aging car. What's to be unhappy about?

I've heard of people having to get their turbo replaced with far less miles than yours.
Personally, having a 15' 328i sulev as well, this is good info knowing it's covered under warranty even at 81K.
