CBS Showing Too Many Miles to Next Oil Change

I think I have a headscratcher here. My CBS is claiming I have 7000 miles to go until my next oil change. After my last oil change it started at 10,000 per usual. The odd part is I know I did my last oil change more than 4000 miles ago meaning CBS is telling me to wait more than 10,000 miles until my next change!

I checked my VO using esys and I have the correct 10,000 mile option. Not sure if I should be checking some other parameter elsewhere to see what is actually active?

Anyone have any idea what is going on and why?

It's 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. When you get within a month of when it's due it will say so.

Actual miles driven is just one component in determining oil life. Run time, fuel burned, and capacitance of the oil itself are allegedly others.

My issue is the other way around though. I have 10,000 miles MAX

I have driven 4000+ miles and yet CBS states my next service is in 7000 miles. Why would the system ever indicate that I could drive more than 10,000 from my last change?

It seems like something is wrong but I'm at a loss as to where to look first.

It is like F32Fleet said, it is not a hard 10k miles interval and it may also extend it based on whatever parameters it is that it monitors. In average conditions the interval is 10k but in your case at the moment the situation is such that the car thinks you can go more than 10k and the oil will still be as good as it would be in average conditions. Personally I have not seen anywhere detailed documentation by BMW what parameters are followed but number of starts, engine load, temperatures and electrical characteristics of oil have been speculated.

Change it at one year or 10k miles, whichever come first, and stop kvetching about the dashboard already.

Still seems odd to me since I'm using the same oil and driving the same way and before the car was telling me to change oil every 7000 miles or so.

If you have 6500 miles left would it say 7000 or 6000 miles? Since at the high end it drops by 1000 at a time. This could go some way to explaining what is happening if 6100 miles is "7000".
