Vibrations in the new 3-series

Hi,

I recently bought a new 320d (F30) that was delivered in June 2012.
It has a sports suspension but no adaptive chassis.
Immediately I felt vibrations in the steering weel between 70-120 kph.
It feels somewhat like driving an old car with unbalanced wheels. I contacted my local BMW dealer and they have now gone through the car, including steer-box software, wheels, brakes etc. but the problem remains. They now "wait for orders from Germany". I understand that other owners have experienced similar problems.
Does anyone have more info about these vibrations and what they might originate from?

Carl

In the german Motor-Talk forum there is the general believe that its the Tires. Although one member switched tires with no luck, others got new tires and don't have the problem any more.

You could try getting the tires swapped for a different vendor. The Tires that have problems seem to be Continental (ContiSportContact), Pirelli (especially the P7) and Goodyear. No one reported problems yet with Bridgestone.

Also: No Problems where reported with the variable sportsteering, adaptive dampening or a combination of those.

The base for this data is the reports of 32 Members of the german forum.

Had my 328i also with (non-adaptive) sport suspension. But had also addional K&R sport springs installed (lowered by 30 mm) and also had the OEM 18" 397 wheels with ContinentalSportContact tires replaced by Kelleners Sport/Hamburg 19" wheels with Pirelli PZero RFT tires. With neither the OEM suspension nor the new K&R springs + 19" wheels I have problems like these. However with the 19"wheels on some roads I feel a very light vibration in the steering wheel, probably due to the (bracking)tracks on the road. But it is not really bothering me ánd I was warned for it in advance. So to my humble opinion it has nothing to do with the tires.

Not having problems myself, I would suspect wheels not balanced from factory in that case. 225/50/17inch Pirelli P7's fit perfect on the car. No Probs
