NBT iDrive Retrofit Complete
So the kit finally arrived. However after several hours at tackling the install, I'm starting to feel this is out of my league even with instructions. Might have to resort to a pro.
At the moment, every things half done. It's just a mess. Certainly not as simple as it looks. I wouldn't recommend trying this yourself unless you're confident. Last edited by knightsabers; 04-08-2014 at 04:47 PM.. |

Hey Knightsabers been following your purchase on the other thread. Shame it was not as easy to install as you first thought. The upgrade is tempting but no way I would attempt to install myself.
Where are you thinking of getting it professionally installed may I ask? Because if that is reasonably priced and they do a good job I will look into the upgrade much more seriously. I am crap at that stuff and the install is what has been delaying a decision on my part. Thanks. |

My first thought was BMR but not sure if that is up their alley. Obviously ask and hope they can do it because what happens if they can't? Good luck mate.

Damn... I've been following your retrofits and all seem to track along really well too. I was really keen on the progress with this one but it seems this is definitely one I wouldn't be able to tackle.
Good luck with BMR, hope they can do something for you |

Max from Elebest is very helpful but I'm not really good with wires, hopefully our session tonight will be more fruitful. It's quite difficult finding ways to feed wires through discretely. Eg. removing the microphone cable from the roof, dismantling the arm rest to feed aux & iDrive cable. Going to see if I can do it first.

Looks difficult but worth the effort,I wonder if some professional high end interior car detailing business could help that retrofit high end aftermarket in car music systems etc anyways all the best looking forward to the end product !

I would like to thank Max@Elebest, for guiding me through each step of the process. Thank you very much for being so forgiving and patient with a complete novice like me. After a few hiccups along the way and me screwing up a few times, we got the job done after 9 hrs. The coding took roughly an hour.
Tools: Trim removal tool, Torx Screw Driver set, OBD Cable, Plyer & Electrical tape I would highly recommend purchasing it from Elebest, After sales support service is unmatched and the delivery was quick. In the end it looks like I didn't need a pro after all. Last edited by knightsabers; 04-08-2014 at 09:55 AM.. |

Excellent work my friend, well done. You are now the professional in Sydney maybe you could charge a fee to do others. Thanks for the updates. I may look into this now. Looks great.

Thanks, maybe someone from Brisbane might do it in the future. Certainly not many in Aus, I think BMW would've charged thousands for something like this. Wish the seller was available in Sydney, would've been much easier. Last edited by knightsabers; 04-08-2014 at 10:11 PM.. |

Yep. I was surprised it could read asian characters. So first thing I did was test a track from May J Don't know if its me but the sound quality is even better than before. Would definitely recommend it.

Quite a bit of physical & electric work but the result is superb Thanks for your help & especially Max. Couldn't have happened without both you guys. Definitely worth the effort, improves the overall cabin appearance. The new iDrive is so much faster, sharper & more equipped. Thanks. |

Here's some pics of the installation phase. Had cables all over the place, dangling parts.
