What's wrong with the Z4?
Z4's seem to be as rare as rocking-horse shit, almost never see them outside of the local dealer's showroom, so what gives? Is it just a victim of strong competition from Mazda at the low end and Porsche at the high end? See loads of MX5's and Boxsters around and while the Porsche looks the dogs, I reckon the Z4 kicks the MX5 into the weeds in the looks department. What else is the issue? Poor VFM? Poor residuals? Some other flaw?
When looking to replace the 328i I briefly flirted with the idea of a Z4 35i as I'm partial to a 2 seater ragtop, but the deals couldn't match the 340i, and I guessed it's due for replacement soon. Thinks... B58 engine in a Z4, hmmm

I think the SLK was a better car up until the present version. Which was the first to get toys like air scarf and electronic parking brake. My missus looked at them when she ended up buying the SLk. BMW just didn't come close the finance offers from MB.

I had a 2011 Z4, loved it, the sound with the roof down was the bollox. Then new baby came along ... lol They changed the engines to 4 pot turbo's if i remember the year after i got mine ... cant beat the sound of a 3L 6 pot.

There's a few around and I don't see all that many more Boxsters or SLKs around. This is a segment that has been in overall consistent decline for years now.
I had a 2010 Z4 30i and we loved it, and really regret selling it now. It out handles any 3 series short of the M cars, especially if you swap to decent tyres- makes a bigger difference in this car than any other I've done it with. They are a great blend of fun sports car, but enough refinement, space and toys to be a good long distance tourer. We had its to Tuscany, Alps, France, 2 up with holiday luggage for a couple of weeks. And I did quite a few track days too.

What model was your Z4? Was it the old one? I think Tengo is talking about the newer one.

Nothing wrong with a z4, perhaps it's too cool to be a hairdresser's car, hence why they are not popular?

Now I'm not saying that the Z4 was amazing, it's well back from a Boxster, but it's also much less expensive. To me it was a great all rounder in that category of sports car. So a cruiser in that context is still a better handling car than standard range small 4 door saloon cars. Especially one that it was based on.

The Z4 is one of the 10 lowest volume selling cars in the United States. They are extremely rare. Decent car but I think buyers prefer the Porsche boxer for the money and if they don't like the Porsche, Mercedes-Benz.
What do you guys think of the Z3 rumors? |

Had heard about a possible Z2, guess this would be closer to an MX5.

They would not know a decent car if it bit them in the arse. Have read reports on the Z5 and some 'spy shots' of it. There is also the collaboration project that BMW are working on with Toyota. There is a rumour the new supra and Z5 could share similar platform architecture. |
