Keyed... recommendations
So, apparently someone took offence to my shiny tanzanite blue 440i and decided to key my driver side door and to a lesser extent the rear panel next to it
I'll attach a photo... hopefully it's visible! So any ideas what it's likely to cost me? Does anyone have any recommendations for places in the South anywhere around places like Fleet, Reading, that will do a good job fixing it? |

You know it wont polish out which means respray of doors
Maybe try a few local places but if all fails I can give you the details of the guy who re-sprayed my door when I got a bit happy with a polisher. |

Scum who do this type of thing deserve to spend weeks in traction to teach them a lesson.
I reckon it's most likely going to need a respray unfortunately. How deep is the scratch? If it's only the clear coat you could try something like this first |

It's kinda after the horse has bolted but you need a dash cam front and back with parking mode these days, especially on a car like this. It's a shame, I feel for you, hope it gets sorted with minimal fuss/expense.
The dash cam video of the guy keying that Aston martin in the Tesco car park sold the whole dash cam thing to me. The guy had to hand himself in because it went viral. |

It may well polish out, with a bit of careful and light wet sanding on the clear coat.
I’ve (unfortunately) had to do it on 2 of our cars, and also, removed one the entire length of a friends car. Where abouts are you? |

I think they even do a DR900 now that does 4K footage. Also the thinkware cams are good too. Another reason I decided to finally invest was the problems a guy at work had with an accident. Guy reversed into him at red traffic lights when he was sat stationary. They guy admitted fault but then later said he went into the back of him at the lights. Dash cam would have saved him a lot of hassle. Luckily he inadvertently recorded the whole encounter with the guy rather than take the photos. OP where was the car parked? |

It doesn't nessercerily mean a respray. It really does depend on how far it penetrated. I have 'removed similar scratches down the full length of a car with a megs g50 and some compound and glaze. Share a rough general location and some friendly forum member maybe able to assist.
Seeing this boils my piss, spineless gutless wankers..... |

I'm not sure it would have helped in this situation as I was away for the weekend so wouldn't recognize anyone. Though as you said the power of social media might have identified. It was parked up on a road at the time, a fairly nice one I thought given the other cars in the area... evidently not, or maybe that just made the road a bigger target for such mindless acts. |

They seem to have applied extra pressure at a couple of points, so the scratch is deeper there... not sure that's going to polish out |

Probably some jealous cunt you know! Think the dash cam is sounding like a good idea to me now too. Some fucking prick ran over my bonnet resulting in a dentwizard repair.... Usually cunts with fuck all who think the world owes them something and it's always someone else's fault the have nothing who do things like this. I'd love to catch the cunts!

I think the repair costs depend on how OCD you are about the condition of the car.
Daughters car was keyed worse than that a few years ago and we polished it out. Took ages though and we probably removed most of the paint. However, when we traded it in, the dealer didn't even spot it - although we waxed it first. I would try a smart-type repair first. Even a DIY solution similar to the many posts on here where you essentially fill the scratch with paint and lightly rub it level with wet and dry, before a final polish could be OK. As a last resort, if that doesn't work, you can always get it sprayed. If you go down the respray route, you might find it looks worse in the end than the smart repair. |

I was actually trying to refrain from swearing but it's CUNTS like that who do right CUNT-ISH things like this who make me a right angry CUNT! Just when I remember OP I had a chip repair guy remove stone chips from a previous car by using the touch up and buff down method mentioned above, a ittle time consuming but by the time he was done you'd have never known they'd been there...... I do think over time though they slowly come back through because it doesn't have a coat of lacquer

I was quoted £300 per panel (£600 in total) at a local paint shop to repair my keyed drivers door & front wing.
My local chip guy is coming next week and will repair it for £200 .

Sorry to see this.
Something like Chipex might work, depending on your OCD level. It would be your cheapest option. A SMART repair by a proper bodyshop might also do the trick. A full respray would be my least favoured option due to the cost and also they will probably end up touching other panels to make sure it's properly blended in.

of scratch. Chipex is designed for stone chips. Take the car to a BMW body shop that has a good reputation or an Indy that is also well regarded. |
