Early oil change?

What do you think about an early oil change, after 1000 miles or so? (New F32 440 xDrive) Is there a benefit?

At 1k miles? There's no benefit but do it if it makes you feel better.

It can't hurt, but probably won't help. IMO changing the filter in between oil changes is a good idea. It's easy to do yourself, and only costs about ten bucks. I don't drive enough to change the oil more than once a year, but I change the filter after six months.

at most i would do it twice as often as the recommended interval. especially if you are in a lot of stop and go traffic or driving aggressively.

I had mine changed at about 1300 miles after break-in and while it was at the dealership getting the exhaust and mppk installed, and charge pipe swapped. Sure doesn't hurt anything, any real advantage is unknown. Like already mentioned I would keep it on an interval of being changed every 6-7000 miles more for the filter at that point.

How is this a mystery? If this was an M car, BMW prescribes an oil change at 1200 miles.

I do it on all my cars at 1200 or thereabouts. It's only $100 so not a big investment. Maybe it helps, maybe not. But on the off chance it helps I'm happy to spend the $100.

I had my local BMW service change my oil and filter after break in miles were reached, I believe it got done at about 1,900 miles.

I made sure they did NOT reset the service indicator as well. So I'll have 2 oil changes in the first 10k miles. Big whoop, an extra $100 for peace of mind.

I always change the oil and filter after break in mileage on any new car. Cheap insurance and a better feeling in general about the oil, even if it is synthetic.

Did mine at 1400 mi after breakin
If its good for an M car its good enuf for me.. besides breakin was as-usual until the recent insanity of lifetime fluids etc..
If you own and want longer life breakin and change oil after breakin.. if you DIY it only costs around $50-60

Because M cars use a specially formulated dino juice oil for break in. Non-M cars do not.

Here's a copy of test results on my break-in oil at 4600 miles. "10,000 miles seems possible on future oil changes." YMMV.

Same for the diff fluids as well. Ms ship with break in specific fluids throughout that need replaced. On a non-M the oil and filter is just in case there is some microscopic metal floating around the system. Engines are built to very tight tolerances and as they break in there can be some wear. As things break in, little tiny pieces are worn off.

I changed the break-in oil at 4600 miles so I wasn't able to re-test the same oil later. Not doing a break-in change for me was the emotional hurdle, same as others on this thread have an emotional attachment to a 1k break-in change or a 6k routine change. So I wanted some scientific evidence that delaying or skipping the early break-in change was ok.

On my E46 I had done a number of 10k analyses once I started doing BMW's 12month/10k cycle, and they were always clean. So I no longer feel any distrust towards a 10k change with a BMW engine for my personal driving habits. My driving style works out to 10k every 12 months, so it falls nicely in line with BMW's schedule.

I'll add that I've seen analyses that were "dirtier" than mine for the same mileage, so definitely driving conditions/habits matter. Also some people just feel more comfortable changing oil more frequently regardless of the evidence/science, and that's fine. We buy these cars out of emotion, so if anybody feels the hugs from extra oil changes then by all means go for it.

I did breakin around 1400mi mostly to rid of the breakin metal particulates
I knew the oil was obviously still good having most of its additives etc

no point in doing it too early.

the oil filter needs to be changed with each oil service. putting clean oil into a car with a dirty oil filter is like taking a shower and then putting your disgusting work clothes back on afterwards. also, dont follow the bmw oil change interval of like 15,000miles unless you want to break your car.

Did you actually read my post?

I've been meaning to try that myself.. so what do you do just unscrew the filter housing and replace it alone?
When you do that do you get any oil spillage?

5,000 to 6,000, that's my yearly mileage. I don't commute, just errands and vacation trips.

thats the perfect mileage for an oil change considering you have a highway car. do you think its a good idea to change the oil filter halfway through the interval, is it dirty when you pull it out? i changed my filter with the oil together after roughly 5000 miles but im looking for opinions on this. thanks alot
