Oil and filter change 335D
Hi guys,
recently picked up a 2016 335d and am wondering about the servicing on it. I've read up its condition based servicing, but im wary that 25k between services is quite a lot! Having come from a VW GTI where I used to do an oil change every 5k (£30 for genuine oil and filter from TPS), I'm tempted to do interim oil changes myself between services - is this a good idea? What oil does the 335d use, 5W30? is there a specific brand? and oil filter? is MANN the genuine brand? How many litres does it take? Can these be purchased from bmw or will I need to go eurocarparts/GSF? Any help would be much appreciated. |

It is a bit of can of worms and splits opinions. For me due to the low costs of diy oil change it’s worth to do more frequent changes. BMW oil filter is £23 from dealers. Castrol EDGE 0w30 (Bmw recommended) is £35 for 4 liters from ECP. So about £55 for 6.5 liters needed. I’d say for the sake of keeping engine from premature wear £80 is not a lot considering the cost of the car |

Forgot to add, it literally takes 20 minutes to do from start to finish. Just need jack to lift the car, 17” socket for oil plug and slightly larger one for oil filter(can’t remember the size). BMW oil filter comes with metal washer for oil plug so probably worth a bit extra compared to generic ones.
