A local coder run diagnostics a couple of weeks ago - he found no errors and just suggested updating the car's i-step, etc... I will do that in some point. In this case is RTTI...

I’ve got a Pro Nav in a late 2012 330d f31.

Using 2018-1 maps the nav calculates the route quickly, I've just purchased connected drive sub and now have rtti and the nav now takes about 1 minute to calculate the same route- does anyone have an update from BMW about a fix?

From reading this thread ive turned off ‘receive traffic’ and the nav is back to its usual performance! So its definetlely rtti and when i only had TMC it didn’t do this with 2018-1 maps.

RTTI Issues

My car is an X3 but the subject is about RTTI and related issues. My car was 3 years old 01/2018 Bmw reported my Connected drive would stop functioning on 19/03/2018. I noticed the slow navigation performance when inputting a satnav route around 2 weeks before my Connected drive was due to expire. I reported this to BMW Connected drive team, he sent an update to my car which appeared to fix it. On 05/03/2018 I bought the RTTI system for £40 as i find this an invaluable service. That's when the navigation system started to fail. The RTTI system either didn't work at all ('A' roads greyed out) or reported no stood traffic (red) when there was a traffic jam. I have reported this 5 times to BMW Connected drive team over the last month, every time I was fobbed off with excuses. Today I asked for a refund of my £40. They sold me a service that at the time of purchase BMW knew that there was a European fault with some cars. Having searched this website there are some similarities. Cars affected are 2015 models mostly. Cars affected are cars at an end of their 3 year contract with Connected drive services and people that have purchased either the RTTI or map updates since January 2018. This is an extremely poor service from a worldwide car company. Yes electronics and software have glitches and are generally fixed in a quick time frame. As a major car company you have left me and plenty of other customers bitterly disappointed with your inability to mend your systems. This has been faulty too long and without explanation just excuses.

Your spot on mate, no report mention about the problem on their website either. I had a new nav unit fitted before the dealer was told about the problem, what a joke

RTTI refund

I have been told 05/04/2018 by Connected Drive team that I can have a refund. I imagine it will take at least a week. Meanwhile I keep looking at the navigation in the car and notice if I zoom out that RTTI is partially working as far north as York and as far south as Liecester. Zoom further out and and the rest of UK and the whole of Europe has NO RTTI AT ALL??

Had similar issue on a recent drive to Manchester - was slow to calc route but OK for bulk of journey. Last 40 mins it repeatedly missed the turns I needed by 200 yds or more, or said to turn right where there was no rigth turn, etc. Didn't notice any RTTI issues specifically.

It was in for service last week and they said BMW are aware of an issue affecting the Nav and we just have to wait for a fix. They suggested it would be several weeks....

2016 F11 running Pro Nav, 2018-1 maps. Still on original ConnectedDrive sub (from new) for another year, so not just affecting re-subscriptions.

It has been bad for so long - I suppose they knew there was an issue all along when the online store was down and I had to call to renew RTTI in mid January... Sent them an email refund request yesterday, in the meantime, exploring this CarPlay thing...

And out of date map "UPDATES"... Will make sure the next car is carplay capable, in the meantime exploring the Carplay from the above link which seems to be plug (to the back of the radio) and play...

I've just put this on another similar thread...

RTTI will be slow. Think about it, since the 217-4 maps, the RTTI has been increasing in volume of roads covered. It's now not only "A" roads like before, but most "B" roads are covered now as well. Just imagine, the volume of info for the car to analyse now to plan a route based on RTTI must be 10 times more than before at least...

It's not only the volume but reloading/processing the traffic data every 3 minutes and the number of possible recalculations caused by changing traffic circumstances that will make the BMW Nav system slower. Traffic information not on the route is not being included into the recalculations.

Some improvements can be made by disabling certain traffic categories.

Car booked in next week as I have lost service history option on the Idrive when new unit was fitted, service manager said apparently the nav problem is still ongoing

To me this is not map related - some parameters have changed, I don't think is just because they now provide B road traffic which something probably linked to the new traffic agreement they announced last summer.

To me looks like the RTTI servers are delivering either too much information (that is not needed for the planned route) or are just struggling with the number of requests.

Not sure to which extent they could upgrade our software, maybe our 3G connection with the RTTI servers is just too slow now, hopefully they can sort this out on their server side... In any case, is a shame that months later BMW have not really acknowledged the issue - this is not even worthy of front page bimmerfest.com news...

They promptly processed a refund once I requested (80% only)... I will subscribe again when/if things get better.

I complained to Bmw and have received this advice:

Thanks for sending me your VIN.

This is one of the issues our customers are experiencing, in relation to the current RTTI performance issues.

I would suggest keeping the 'Retrieve Traffic Data' option off, and turning it back on every couple of days to see if any improvements to the performance area apparent.

The nature of the problem means we expect the performance to gradually improve over time, as opposed to an instantaneous improvement.

I hope this information is helpful, but if there's anything else I can do for you, please get back in touch.

Kind regards

Rob
