N55: Spun hub, YAY

Hello all,

I thought this was only a S55 issue, but after my car made a PFFF after getting on it, (luckily no metal rattling or oil everywhere) I was rewarded with alot of codes and the car turning off.

Used an endoscope and it appears i have the smallest amount of valve to piston contact. Pictures coming.

I am asking for recommendations on fixing this. I started by rotating the crank at the hub to see if it was seized completely or still rotated (which is when i was able to spin the crank bolt a few times before the engine started to turn over).

the engine rotated and the pistons look fine which gives me a little hope that perhaps a valve or two is bent and the fix is not as bad as it could be.

Here is my current issue. I need to time the car again to check for compression but i have a singlemass spec flywheel. I just purchased the tool for aligning cams and vanos, and the pins to hold the crank in place but not sure if this flywheel is going to have the timing holes I need. My question is: could i time this any other way or am i going to need to drop the transmission and put on an OE flywheel?

For checking compression i think i can ball park it, but ultimately would i think im going to need to find a DMFW since i threw mine away a few years back not thinking this would be an issue. I have a new DKM dual disc organic, but do not think those have timing marks either.

Here are the codes i recieved:

165011
165012
165013
165014

130f11
130e11

120408

here's a few photos of the pistons where you can see valve contact, and the codes I was rewarded with.

2013, 75k.

N55 running ps2, e85 (w port injection kit), full bolt ons and tuned.

Think one of the extra injectors started getting leaky, as I was having wot issues wheree the car would sputter or break up. I been trying to diagnose w data logs n switching things out (spark plugs, coils, I jectors was next).

I ran the car after swapping the coils n though I had fixed the issue but then did a 4th gear pull down a hill to reduce load and the issue arrised.

I've only read it one or two places as well, but I went to turn the motor and that bolt was loose.

If anyone in SD has a old dual mass I could use for a bit to time this thing 😂.

Ya, it's essentially unheard of at stock power levels.

Happened to mines miss shift 2k15 335xdrive 6 speed . Spun crank bent valves, then spun bearings since oil pump stopped spinning. Bolt was also loose.

Sorry to hear that, there was no misshift on this one, happen during a 3rd or 4th gear pull around 4000.

Cary, the car has always ran perfectly fine for the past 2 years or so. i think the recent issues i was facing originated form a leaking injector on the PI rail. I had ordered a new set, but after swapping in the OE coils i thought i had fixed it as it was pulling like it use to.

Do you know why target is flat and it is under boosting up top?

So an update. Been forever but got the motor and started taking things apart. One connecting rod has a super small bend. Finally got the crank out and it looks like the thrust bearing failed. See photos... It ate right into the damn crank.

I doubt they cN weld and machine where the material is missing, so I'll probably be looking for a replacement. Getting a motor swapped directly might be a better option and then I'll sell my ps2 and all the bells and whistles.

I ran a spec stage 3+ clutch, idk if that played a roll into why this happened (or why my 2nd gear synchro gave me a middle finger) but it is what it is.
