I remember when I was a kid, my dad paying around 76p a litre. I remember when I passed my test, it was during the phase where it was about £1.46 a litre.

Congratulations and welcome!
My son has the new 118i with this engine in and to be honest it is a bit of a gem! got to get it out of our heads (certainly the more senior on here) that is 'only' a 3 cyl and 'only' 1.5 you would not guess by driving it. Punches above its weight.

Nice first car, beats my first wheels by a country mile.
Citroen Dyane 1979 model, fitted with the finest Saishio HiFi. Due to running the car on a YTS wage - couldn’t afford a new starter motor, so every time I started it with the crank handle. Lying on the garage floor in the depths of winter fixing the car with a set of Halfords spammers and an oily Haynes manual......happy times!! |

I had a 1.5 for my first car too! Only, it was a Civic sedan... Congrats OP and enjoy the lovely BMW drive. Doesn't matter what size engine, you make the fun happen.

Very open to views on this, dashcam or no dashcam? Part of me feels it makes everything look cluttered etc but from an insurance pov it seems the smart move.

I've just fitted a BlueSkySea B1W to my F31, it sits directly under the plastic trim of the rear view mirror with cabling routed up the side and into the headliner and down the a-pillar to the under glove box 12v socket - it's invisible to me while driving as the mirror hides it and from the front it's barely noticeable. I've never had a need for one before now in 15 years of driving but insurer offered £60 off if I had one so it's really zero cost for if I hadn't got one given that it cost £50 plus a £10 card and 10 minutes for fitting.

congratulations, that's a lovely looking car. I can also commend the 18i engine, I had it in a hire car 118i and it's a great little engine, my understanding is that it is the same fundamental design as the b58 found in the 40i, just half the cylinders.

Congratulations on the new car, you must be happy as a dog with two tails!
Have to say the Icon Adaptive lights are one of the best options on these cars - aside from the much improved night view, it looks cool too. Bet you can't wait for August and the French road trip now - looking forward to a mini write-up of it (with photos of course) PS - my first car was a 1972 Triumph Spitfire 1300 with a slipping clutch... and rust patches.
