Why are you referring to this as an exhaust "suite"?

Some of the midpipe videos make it seem quite a bit louder when installed.
No downside other than that you are missing out! The midpipe makes the biggest difference imo. It will definitely be louder than just the axle back but not obnoxious (unless you are constantly backing off throttle at 5k rpm, which I'm positive you won't be able to stop doing). Obviously everyone has different preferences but I think it's the ideal volume for a daily. I always ask my friends what it sounds like from the outside and most of them say "it's not obnoxious but you can tell it's not stock". It's pretty quiet when you are just cruising but it's like a trumpet once you get on the gas.

If you are torn, you can just start with the axle-back and then get the midpipe later on if you aren't satisfied.
Thanks, the input is helpful and I like the idea of starting with just the axleback and adding midpipe if I want more.

I suppose another question is: how much louder is the axleback than stock exhaust in sport/sport+?
I got the full system at the same time so can't comment on just the axleback. It will definitely add the tone and a bit of volume but you'll probably want more

Saw this old post - but does it drone with AWE midpipe and axleback?

Not at all unless you are super sensitive to exhaust sound. You'll hear it VERY slightly at highway speeds but it's a nice note, not a buzzing that hurts your ears.

Nice - so no regrets!

How is the noise level inside - as can still have (work-related) phone calls without having to shout?

Yes easily. Inside with windows up is barely louder than stock under normal driving.

Amen to that.

It's deeper than MPPSK but about the same loudness if not louder since MPPSK has a larger muffler. Don't get as much burbles though since you don't have the MPPSK flash. If you prefer a valved exhaust then there are other options but MPPSK is overpriced unless bought with the car.

Wonder why AWE didn't put a valve - believe somewhere they said it isn't loud enough to warrant one - but options is always nice!

It's probably the most aggressive catback exhaust for the x40i. Straight midpipe and pretty much a non-existent muffler (about the size of a tiny mailing box) lol.

I prefer to have the aggressive note at all times.
