Hi Lazy git. log on to connected drive on your computer and go to map uipdates. Select update by usb and it will install programme onto your computer.

+1 for my March 2016 Business Nav which, for map updates, terminates tomorrow. Also Connected Drive says that the extension (£79) is not available for this vehicle. Shit service. I have emailed BMW asking them to explain why no update since 2018-1 and no extension.

I'd be demanding a refund. It's not like it's some free service that they just give away. You paid money, and should be getting regular updates.

I paid £55.96 last May, which was for two years, so I’m looking at two map updates for that. Where they sell it in ConnectedDrive it says “always be up to date”. There are roads I drove on regularly that changed layout in late 2017 that aren’t in 2018-1. Had to use my phone when I went to Norwich as they’d built a new bypass. I felt a bit jealous handing my old TomTom over to my mother in law yesterday.

The FAQ is talking about an error if the computer hard drive isn't a supported format, and suggests NTFS as one that is supported.

That's entirely different to the format required for the USB drive for the transfer to the car.

The BMW Download program still only says I can have the EVO 2018-4 map, which I've already installed. I did get a message on the idrive today though, saying there was an update. It doesn't show as 2019 though....??

I've just changed to this car, so it's the first time I've had any possibility of OTA updates. It's kinda frustrating how there seems to be no consistency in what maps are available and when....

The OTA update is just the UK & IRE maps to get the full map you need to go through the Connected Drive download manager

With an up to date paid up subscription this should/will entitle you to 4 usb/download manager map updates over the course of the 12mth subscription period as they are released one each 1/4 if you have the NBT iDrive system. OTA updates should happen but are very sporadic & from personal experience only update the GB & IRE part of the map not the full map software.

In a moment of madness I emailed Connected Drive to ask why I hadn't received 2019-1 OTA and why the DM still only offers me 2018-4. This was the reply I got yesterday:

Thanks for your email about Map Updates. Please accept my apologies for the delayed response.

I can confirm that the 2019-1 maps are slowly being released to all vehicles. When the new update is available specifically for your vehicle, it will update OTA. There are various factors that play a part in determining availability such as: Device Type, HMI Version, PU Step, and Country/Region in addition to the map version provided to BMW by the supplier.

As there are so many factors involved the team that develops and releases the various versions of Map Update are never able to provide us with an accurate timeframe for the release of the newest map versions – But please be assured that this update will become available for you to download for your vehicle sometime between now to April.

I hope this information is useful and if you need anything else, please get back in touch.
