Jose's First ever BMW - Im completely lost!
As per the post! Im completely lost with the BMW, I am not clueless with cars but this just makes my head go round!
1st stop, coding. I have the cable coming in, wanting to have the extended bluetooth, auto off of stop / start, auto close of wing mirrors (love this feat in the freelander!) and maybe the dvd while driving ( for my daughter in the middle seat). i couldn't for the life of me figure out do i have the CIC nav? NBT nav? on the check it says ive got professional nav. Does that guarantee that i have the combox? (do i require this for the EBT? ) performance wise Im all sorted, AP BBK, charge pipes, tune and Milletek turbo back exhaust. vin is WBA3A56040NR02472, if someone can help me decipher what I have and what I dont. any help will help. ps. I promise to update soon with photos as soon as i get this coding sorted out. |

In my honest opinion, BimmerCode would have been your best choice for coding.
Ultra simple and straight forward for beginners. Im guessing your plan is to download and learn eSys? And then have your laptop handy (and connected to internet) when ready to code? Sounds complicated and cumbersome... |

3 series forums will never be dead forums. It's the civic of the bmw lineup. People always tinkering. I'd recommend bimmercode.
If you want to code using esys you need token master to launch and much have a Ethernet to obd connector. Make sure to follow the cheat sheets exactly as well

Im getting confused to be honest, the ESYS you still need a token? but it allows you to change anything you want as per the cheat sheets. With bimmercode you buy the codes each time you want to activate something? is this correct? Like EG. I am sure I have the combox having the professional nav, but to activate it with bimmercode it is 175$ for the code, which I am assuming in the esys you only need to pay for the token. is this correct? please correct me if im wrong. https://bimmercat.com/bmw/EN/vin/decoder/NR02472/EN Scroll down to see what came with your car. I see your car was built in Aug 2012, better have your timing chain checked. Last edited by Zanity; 03-18-2019 at 09:08 PM.. |

Just checked the timing chain aswell for the 2nd time since last week. last check when it was hot / warm it was tight, no movement at all. I have checked tonight with the car being parked since last night, it is still tight. as far as I could remember that the timing tension was hydraulic regulated, which means my timing chain / guides are still okay correct? I do have 58ks on the car tho.. |

@LaNcE01 you are incorrect. BimmerCode is a one time fee for the software and you can code as many things on as many different vehicles as you want for no extra cost.
I believe the software is under $50 and the WiFi dongle cost $15. |

I do recommend getting a higher quality dongle just to make sure it won't disconnect in the middle of reprogramming the ECU. I've seen cheap ones that if you bump it at the right angle, it loses connection, can't imagine the affect of that when the ECU is programmed half way. I also recommend BimmerLink too for anyone planning to keep their car long term, because you need that for battery replacement reset, my battery hovers around 65% now, it doesn't seem to go above that, so it looks like it's already 40% dead.

+1 for BimmerLink...
My Vgate iCar Wifi OBD adapter has worked flawlessly for 1.5 years. Was under $20. Cant speak for other brands. |

Happy to report that I have successfully coded my EBT! a few more coding to go when I figure out how to code the dvd / wing mirrors / acc. thats on top of my head.
*for those going to comment, the DVD in motion is for my 4 year old, I have installed a headrest monitor and it just looks horrendous! Got to keep my 4 year old updated with my little pony episodes.. |
