Boost Leak from CP to IC

So while under load sometimes, I can hear a very high pitched squeal coming from the front of the car. Sounds like air forced through a pin hole, leading me to believe it's some sort of boost leak.

What confirmed my belief is slight oil leakage between the connection of my CTS intercooler and my FTP chargepipe (from throttle body to IC). I know that both o-rings were installed properly so that is not the issue.

Wondering if anyone else ever ran into this issue and what the fix could be. Someone mentioned it could be the material CTS uses on it's connections and that it was contracting/expanding from heat soak leading to an improper fitting. Really don't want to buy a new intercooler but not sure what else to do.

Plan on putting the system under pressure and looking for leaks, or possibly performing a smoke test to see where it is escaping, but based on the oil i'm pretty sure I know the culprit.

No need to just blindly 'throw darts' to see what it might be... Agree, do pressure/smoke test, then report back.

More so starting this in preparation for the results. If my suspicions are correct I'm wondering if there are any fixes other than buying a whole new intercooler or chargepipe.

Well, if you have the rings in and still getting leak after re-seating everything.... bad interface. Solution = ________ yup. That's part of why i went with ER TIC/CP plus the Dinan IC. It works, is solid/know good, etc. And hey, while you're in there, if your near the DV may as well do that to the DV+

One of those "while i'm in there" kinda things. You know

So I noticed while installing the FTP CP to my CTS Turbo IC the fitment was a little loose (even though it was nice and tight once I got it all installed) so instead of taking chances of a boost leak I applied some high-temp silicone gasket maker (I used the same at the corners of the valve cover gasket on my wife's E46) to the inside flange of the CP then bottled everything up. No issues.

before buying all sort of replacement parts, personally, i'd drop the intercooler and check the o-rings as well as everything else. the factory o-rings seem a bit thin and could easily tear.

Did you figure out why it got loose?

That's common with open filter intakes, but might be a different noise

I replaced the CP and FMIC at the same time so I dry fit the new parts (CTS Turbo FMIC and FTP CP) before I installed them on the car. With the o-ring seal installed and clip engaged the fitment was a bit loose and I had suspicions. I added the gasket maker as a little insurance but when I actually got it all installed on the car it was tight. I made sure that I spread the upper pipe and lower pipe as far apart as possible at the silicone coupler which I think helped. I have had no issues since the installation.

Well, yeah, first smoke test her as i bet the o ring FUBAR'ed or ??? The guys here have some excellent suggestions instead of just 'throwing parts at it'. Do seem to recall someone talking about larger o rings somewhere online that work great. Anywho, smoke test and report back, let's not start jumping to conclusions.

Hey, it could just be that you're a bit low on Blinker Fluid
