I was going to do a similar trip this year but spontaneously decided to buy my new car and didnt fancy taking the old E92 for fear of trashing it before px and reluctant taking new one until properly bedded in. Defo next year! Plan to go to all the Grand Prix circuits (current and old) to end up at Maranello.

Your post has kicked me up the arse to actually do it. Excellent drills mate.

(How fast did you manage on the Autobahns? )
Haha! Brakes are not something you want failing on a road like that, seen a couple of holes in the barriers which give us the shivers thinking what must have happened.

The car still has the limiter on so we only managed to hit that, but to be honest that was quick enough!

Thanks for the kind words everyone, really was a trip to remember.

If you're thinking about doing something similar I really would just bite the bullet and pencil in a date to go. It didnt take too much planning and wasnt that expensive to do. We had talked about going to the nurburgring for years and also threatened to one day see some of these amazing roads. It was only a few months ago we decided f*ck it, we will just go and do it the next time we're all available to go.

We had our hotels booked each night to make sure we made progress as we only had a week, but you could easily book in places as you go and spend as long as you want exploring areas you fancy staying a bit longer.

How do you nominate for a thread to be put on the front page Bimmerpost news? This one should be!

I'm not sure, but I've given it a top 5 stars in the thread rating at the top right.

Absolutely fantastic pictures. I'm so jealous

Thanks pal, I can't personally take the credit for that one though. That was one of the pictures our photographer friend set out to get, he's a talented lad!

Looks amazing! Did you push it much on the ring? I would love to go there but I would be too worried about hitting something!

Pretty much, we had to go into Amsterdam to pick up our mate but then once there we just punched in the Nurburgring address into the sat nav and it was a straight forward blast down the motorway. You come off the motorway as you get closer onto some more interesting country-ish roads but its all well signposted.

Just make sure there isnt anything on the day you plan to go. Once you get there you can get a card at the main entrance or there is a ticket office further round where you actually enter and exit the track. Its just a case of topping the card up with laps at 29 euros/lap. From there its a simple case of pulling onto the track holding your card up at a car park style barrier and off you go. Only 1 lap at a time is possible as you pull off again before the start point. Didnt need a helmet or anything for this, only require one if its an event you're doing.

We arrived on a monday evening and it wasnt too busy at all which was fine to get some laps in without too much traffic around, Id probably do this again next time before having a full day of it the next day. We didnt take out any sort of insurance because we knew itd be quiet and where only doing a few laps but if i was doing a full day it might be worth looking into as track repairs from accidents can get pricey quickly.

Thanks, we gave it a bit of a squeeze but nowhere near the capability of the car. We only had time for a few laps and as you'll know its a tough circuit to learn. We where also aware that we needed the car for the rest of the trip and didnt want to stuff it on the first day haha. We will be returning though for a dedicated trip just to do the circuit, we know the set up now so know exactly what to expect.

Forum road trip should be on the cards! The ring is great, even if you don't do any laps there is always a good vibe there and plenty tasty cars to look at in the car park. Then also plenty good vantage points round about from which to view cars taking on the interesting sections.

I recon a ring trip needs to be done, we did a few back from the E90 side of days. One way to save your car is hrie one. I found some of best fun you can have is in a suzuki swift from rent a racer. Between two / three people not too expensive and gives you full coverage and a 10 min lap viable

absolutely stunning, looks like a great drive. Can hardly think of a better car than the M3 to do it in either, combination of comfort, speed and handling.

I'd definitely be interested in that. Like you say plenty going on even if you're not doing any laps, seen some nice motors knocking about as well

A friend from work did a track day in one of those swifts and said it was brilliant, he reckons he had more fun in one of those than he would have had in something more exotic simply because he wouldnt have had the skill to exploit the more powerful car around there. Definitely something to consider doing next time
