Google Maps now in CarPlay Dashboard

Just need to get Waze support and I'm happy. Not been a huge fan of Apple Maps or the BMW maps.

Just get the latest google map update from the App Store. To replace Apple maps you just need to select google maps then switch to the CarPlay Dashboard.

If you want to switch between normal and satellite view. You need make the change in google maps, then switch to Apple maps then back to google maps. Otherwise it just holds onto the view.

I wish I could get CarPlay for 2016 F36. The onboard SatNav and entertainment interface are the only things I wish I could change. I really don't rate it.

Is there a way to get the directions to display in the HUD? This is the only reason I still use the BMW maps at present.

No the HUD only works with the BMW NAV. I've heard that Apple with support HUD soon but knowing BMW it'll be only supported in iDrive 7 for a fee. The nav experience is superior so happy to use Waze etc. Just use the HUD for changing tracks and speed info.

I paid for carplay and got a refund... I find id6 to be far superior.

Noticed this by accident the other day. Glad it’s had an update. However I prefer having google maps on full screen in satellite view.

My car has CarPlay, never ever used it. The iDrive is better for me.

It think it also depends how into the Apple eco system you are. I can’t imagine using anything else. Everything all syncs very well. Love how integrated all the music apps such as mixcloud/BBC sounds/Spotify and of course Apple Music.
