F30 X-Drive 328i 2016

Got a 2016 X-Drive 328i as a courtesy while my 2013 X-Drive 335i M-Sport w/Adaptive suspension is in the shop. I was taken aback by the loaner as it felt and drove like a Ford Focus. The steering and road feel was numb to say the least. The suspension was harsh and the road noise intrusive. Rather surprised by the vast difference. Throttle response and torque was way off and disappointing. Not trying to bash the 328i as it has some positive merits of it's own. Just surprised by the rather large difference.

Cool Mmkay

I guess the 6 cylinder and Adaptive Suspension turns a Ford Focus (328) into a proper BMW?

...which is why I took the runflats off my 328 after only 750 miles.

Stock 328 vs stock 335 was bigger with the e90 generation, imho. It's still there now but less so. And when you option them similarly, the delta gets even smaller. I think you more felt the effect of a poorly optioned F30 vs a properly optioned one. Unless your loaner was an m sport with adaptive suspension. Was it?

Agreed. The 328 rides rather nice and I I have a 335.

And I thought the pre-LCI 335i loaner I got drove like a Toyota Camry. Not trying to bash the 335i (even though I just did) as it has some positive merits of it's own. Just surprised by the hey we all have opinions and here's mine don't hate me.

Loaner was not an M-Sport. Come to think of it, Michelin Sport Plus and premium fuel probably also makes a difference. I suspect the combination of run flats and regular fuel on the loaner adds to the sluggishness. I recall reading how the lighter front end on the 328i enhanced the overall handling on this car. Equipping the 328i with adaptive suspension, M-Sport, premium tires, and premium fuel may make a huge difference. Loaners across the board are not well maintained to begin with.

I have adaptive suspension and I've driven cars without it. Adaptive is much better but honestly, the stock suspension is not THAT bad even on xDrive.

As for everyone who compares an F30 to Buick/Honda/Toyota, I really think that a perfectly fine BMW is wasted on you guys. Reminds me of BMW/Benz owners who drive below the speed limit in the left lane, just get a Camry. If you can't tell the difference between a Ford Focus and even a lowly 318d and how they drive, why even bother with a beemer!?

Coming from a Scion TC to a 328xi, it's a night and day difference on stock suspension and everything. I could drive the scion hard and make the wheels and brakes squeal, but when I tried my hardest on a stock 328xi I test drove, it took everything like a champ. That was the moment I knew I wanted a BMW, and the 328 was the car I needed to buy. (although I'd gladly trade for a new 340i!)
