'Dinged' at port

Placed my order in Nov., and have been patiently waiting. Had an early meeting this AM, and had a few minutes between appts,. so I was about to drive by the dealer since my car was supposed to come in last night; (I wanted to get a sneak peak). Right before I was about to drive over I got a call from the dealer saying it got some damage or a ding at the port so it will be delayed a few more days...

The cost of having a car shipped from overseas I guess.. Will the 1-800 # know exactly what the damage was, or am I better off never knowing?

I do not have the luxury of waiting another 3 months... I'm leasing if that helps.

hey at least they found the "ding" at the port before it got to you. My car had a little door ding that I noticed about 2 weeks after I got it. I am fairly certain it was there at delivery when I picked it up but I didnt really give the car a good look over. I ended up paying paintless dent repair to get it fixed. Luckily it looks perfect now.

In that case, tell them you dont want to know where the damage is and try not to go looking for it.

Hopefully whatever happened they can remove it without painting. Would suck to have brand new perfect paint ruined by some port paint/body shop (or however that works). If they are anything like dealership detailers then your paint will be wrecked, if the dealership doesn't wreck it themselves when they get the car.

Ah.. Ha.. Oh yea. I forgot I now have to worry about the dealer. My last dealer backed an X5 into my E92 while it was in for service a few years ago. Can't get worse than that..

I was just talking about them getting at the paint when their (assumed) hack job details go to "detail" a new car with what should be perfect paint from the factory.

But yeah, hopefully they don't literally wreck your car driving it around the dealership lol

there should be some documentation of where the damage is.

dings happen more often than you'd expect during transport. they most definitely will not give you another car because of a little ding

I'm not worried about a ding. I'm sure this happens to half the cars. Now if the frame was bent.. (but that probably didn't happen), then that is an issue.

You dont sign the papers until you pick up the car - its still BMW's car right now. You dont need to accept it. The dealer may refuse to order you another, but other dealers will take your money.

I planned on that anyway. I am having the MPPK installed when it is delivered. I told them I need to inspect the car to make sure it is what I ordered before I spend any money on it first.

Dealer will have it on their order screen. Should have a red D if damaged during shipping and location. If not your dealer did it.

Car should be here today if the little bit of snow didn't slow it down. He said there will be a work order with the car about the damage.

It would be interesting to know what they will do to repair whatever damage it is.

Singed the papers today. There was nothing noticeable or any info on what happened. I don't have the car yet though as they are painting it. Here is a pic.
