I was recommended by FCPEuro tech support to use either GI-1 OEM BMW Fluid with two bottles, 500mL per bottle.

Or Redline part #381557 7585 Fluid because apparently it depends on the velocity and how the fluid gets burned.

Any thoughts? Stage 2 tuned 340 with xDrive.
OEM all day every day for those sorts of applications.

The oil pricy, but it's cheaper than causing problems by using ersatz stuff in this case.

Yeah, I just placed my order with FCPEuro. Bought the OEM Front/Rear Diff fluid with 4 drain/refill plugs. Two for front and two for back? If thats correct. Am I missing anything else while Im under there doing the job?

I used ECS' xDrive service kit. Comes with Shell Transfercase fluid (OEM) and 3 quarts of Redline 75W-85 gear oil. I've had it in for about 4 weeks. I drive the car hard and I notice no changes. Seems good to me.

I used Motul Dual Clutch fluid for my 6-speed manual and my tranny is fine. I make sure the oil meets the BMW-spec or has the exact same BMW part # listed as compatible. Otherwise I don't use it. Just my personal experience with non-OEM oil. BMW isn't an oil manufactuer. They just picked a spec off the shelf that also works with their off the shelf diff.

I'm going to add this is the difference between GL-4 and GL-5. This may explain the reason why those with limited slip need different fluids than those without.

It looks like those of us with x-drive might be able to use the same fluid front and rear for our differentials but nothing confirmed yet.

What happened with this? I need to change my rear fluid and I'm super confused. Looking at redline GT4 or the OEM fluid. Just don't know which specific ones.

I used Redline 75W85 50104 in my 340i xDrive rear differential. I'm trying to see if the same fluid can be used for the front differential (NOT TRANSFER CASE). I believe you can, but will do a bit more research before swapping it out.
