2014 CPO at Dealer indefinitely <<Update>> REM Module failure

Not sure I'd like this to be my introduction but I need some support.
My car went in for service @ 55xxx km about 5-6 items serviced. Fuel pump recall (no part), cabin filter, oil, reset. I paid for alignment and windshield.

Problems:
HUD is clear but dim. Maxed out in the control display settings and maxed out dimmer (beside headlight controls). I can barely read in bright sunlight.

Serious Problems:
Week and a half later, my rear windows will not roll down. No rear signals but front and mirrors work. No indication on system check that they are inop. Tried to check fuses but trunk release doesn't work nor does the camera. Still have brake lights though. oh and CEL of course

I work on cars every day but I couldn't be bothered to start with my own car. I meant to do a OBDll scan at work but i was super frustrated. @dealer and no evidence I'm going to see my car ever again.

Anyone recall seeing threads with major electrical issues? Advice?

Are you wearing polarized sunglasses? Try tilting your head and it should be clearer. Or just get non-polarized lenses.

Negative. This 2017 loaner is bright in all lighting conditions. Should my 14 be the same?

As far as the HUD goes, the car possibly had a windshield change. The OEM windshields have a flat spot where the HUD projects. Some non-OEMs do not, which will distort the image slightly, maybe making it appear less bright. But based on the other potential electrical issues you have, hmmm, probably not the windshield.

I'd be frustrated, too. But if you've had the car for awhile, there's likely not much you can do but wait. Good news is that you have a decent loaner, right?

Windshield issue just come up? Or has it been like that for some time?

Re: electrical issues on what sounds like the back half of your car?!? Almost sounds like a break/tear in a major cable somewhere? Run over or hit anything? Weird...

So I did pay for the windshield replacement a week or so before this. They told me the glass is HUD.
My settings before I brought it in we're half brightness in the iDrive settings and rheostat turned halfway. After replacing it I couldn't see it at all with those settings. Not blurry though.

You should double check to be sure the correct windshield was installed.

I agree with tturedraider - doublecheck that the dealer installed the right glass. You can find the part number for your VIN at realoem.com. My opinion is that they did not use the right part since your HUD was working normally before. I'm finding that getting good techs at the dealership is difficult. My car was in for service 4 times in a row to fix the sticking door lock issue, which is an easy replacement of the actuator...but whatevs

With regards to your electrical issues. Did they occur after you brought in your car for service? To replace the fuel pump, your rear seats need to be removed. It's possible that a harness was pinched or damaged when that service was done.

There are way too many systems affected for this to be fuses or relays and nothing runs under the car for these systems that could be damaged by hitting something like road debris - well, unless you hit something like a boulder...but I'm sure you would have noticed that.

Is there a part number on the glass? I was told there should be "HUD" etched in somewhere. I couldn't find it when I had the vehicle.

Thanks for the reply, madmonkey. That helps to know about the fuel pump service. This electrical issue happened 10 days later. Could be related...

BMW
Pilkington
43R-001622.....................I'm guessing a serial or part#
AS1M1246-2DOT682.........DOT registration # for complaince

Same part number as mine and I have a HUD and mine is visible. Does your HUD adjust with sunlight? Or did it ever? I bet they messed up the light sensor when they installed the windshield.

I didn't know the HUD adjusts for sunlight. Does the light sensor affect auto high beams?

It sure does! It was really annoying when I had my roof carrier and it blocked the sun at times. The HUD would dim and I could barely see it.

Auto high beams is a different sensor.

Hey guys, update and good news. I have my car back
As a technician, I was super worried they'd be all up in my cars business and I'm very happy they were not.

I received a call this afternoon suprised to hear my car was ready for delivery. Previously I was told a part was on order, three weeks away. So I can be ahppy I have my car back but still unsure if this was Factory defect or dealer fuck up. Puchasing extended warranty

The correction: Scanned vehicle found puma measure for REM failure followed measure: unplugged reset and performed battery reset on REM REM awoke and due to production date no further repairs needed. All systems now operational.

HUD is working 100% - Replaced rain sensor.

I hope this helps for future diagnosis.

Yep, REM is responsible for the lighting and window functions for the rear half of the car. That's why you saw the front half of the car working properly
