Still worth to rotate tires?

Will be doing a slightly premature oil change this weekend (will be about a 4500 mile interval instead of 5000) and am wondering if I should rotate my tires while I have the car in the air.

The car is currently at 64,100 miles, will be at about 64,500 by this weekend. Tires ideally should have been rotated at the 60,000 mi mark but I just didn't get around to it. Is it still worth it to rotate them now, or are the tires worn to the alignment to the point it doesn't make sense?

Michelin PS4S 245/40r18 all around. Purchased at 40,000 so approaching end of life at around 70,000 mi (basically planning on running them through this year and getting a new set by the time spring/track season picks up)

Check the tires if you see uneven wear than i would just go ahead and rotate them (front to back). Also if there is uneven wear once you change to new tires i would check the alignment and get it fixed. An alignment check-up is worth every year to be done in my opinion.

So it seems like it's a good idea to rotate it regardless. I'd read that if you wait too long to rotate and the tires get really worn into the current alignment, you wouldn't be able to even out the wear pattern (and it could cause some pretty harsh/uncomfortable vibrations).

I agree on the yearly alignment. I just had one done fairly recently after I replaced some suspension components. I know this is one of those things that can be debated to the end of time, but why do you say rotate front to back? In the past I (and the shop that did my alignment) did a cross pattern rotation.

I would still rotate them. Unless they are worn to the point to where it doesn't make a difference. Let the shop decide that for you.

Not taking it to a shop. I would do it when I do the oil change

Oh ok I misread that. I typically have them rotate and rebalance the tires at the same time since it's free from the tire shop I purchase it from.

Yeah I tend to go through Discount Tire and I'm pretty sure they do a complimentary balance when you buy and mount tires

I don't quite understand why you are asking people. Get an inexpensive tire tread gauge. Measure your tread depth across each tire and that will tell you. If you got 30k miles out of a set of MPS4S that's awesome. I religiously rotate and measure each time and I'll probably get 20k miles on my MPS4S

I should. That's something I've been meaning to do but just keep putting off. I know that if a wear pattern gets too embedded, you shouldn't rotate but I haven't seen any numbers connected to that. What kind of tread difference across a tire would you say is past the point of rotatability? 3/32?

Are you on a square set up or staggered? If square and you're diligent about rotating as you say Michelin warranties tread life to 30,000 but only 15,000 for staggered fitment. Reading through the fine print too they don't have any stipulations as to what kind of mileage you put on the tires.
