Coolant leaking, Shop:"leaking coolant from transmission oil cooler, also tran fluid
I got a low coolant light 4 days ago. I refilled coolant to Max line and it'll drain back down within 20 min. of driving.
Took it to the local car shop and the shop told me "Upon inspection it was found that vehicle was leaking coolant from transmission oil cooler. Customer was informed that cooler is also leaking transmission fluid." I wonder if it's really the problem and not just hose or pipe connection need to get tighten up. Anyways will take them 14 days to get part if I want to go thru with the repair. need to order from Germany. Is it safe to drive the car while I look for parts else where since this car shop can't get it within 2 weeks. |

Do you have any reason to not trust this shop? You can always take it somewhere else to get a second inspection. Might be a good idea in your case to go to a proper BMW dealer.
You can try to find parts on your own, and you may even be able to find them with a quicker lead time (although I doubt you would be able to source parts and go through with a repair faster than an established shop) but do you have access to...something that can tell you exactly every part and part number you need (whether that be software, a repair manual, or a person). Do you have a plan for after you find parts? Are you going to do the repair yourself? Most shops will not allow customer supplied parts, especially if you don't discuss with them first. Have you done other work on your car or would this be your first undertaking? Are you asking if it's safe to drive a car that loses its coolant in 20 minutes and trans fluid at unknown rate (a fluid which you can't just "top up" like you can coolant or oil)? No |
