Jaguar - How do they sell cars?

Well after a bit of an emotional trip to the National Arboretum today, we popped to Jaguar at Tamworth.

I thought the one in Wolverhampton was bad...

One salesman tried his hardest to put me off buying either an XE or an XF.

I enquired about my test drives for next week, to be told I can't have one on a Sunday - oh says I, but your sales manager booked it specifically for a Sunday morning. I was then pretty much told to change it to a weekday...

I then look around an XE (2.0D R) quite nice with great wheels and colour, feels good inside the cabin.

I then asks to look in the boot, as would not open from outside, was then told battery not connected, no offer to open it.

I then asked about the engine range on the XE, short reply of 2.0d, I said what about the 3.0, told not releasing one, I said what about the XE S, oh yes he says, that one will be available but it will be expensive ....

He then checks my details and realises that is what I originally enquired about - hence the FType..

Then tried looking at an XF 'Estate' (Sportbrake diesel S) equally as challenging.
Ended up with being told not do test drives in 2.0d engines.

In the end just gave up, obviously Geordies in Jaguar dealerships make them nervous.

Have emailed back cancelling my test drives and explained why, as totally refuse to put up with crap 'Before' sales treatment!

Rant over lol.

That would be enough to put me off buying the car at all.

That's the same service I got at an Audi garage last time. BMW sales guy was proactive and wanted my business.

Not much to ask.

Even when I asked about 'IF' they were doing a Sportbrake in the XE, rather than say, it's been considered or they may do.

He just closed the door with a not going to happen.

Just poor sales technique to me, at least get the customer a test drive in XE, XF Sportbrake and then try to sell them a XF Sportbrake...

Luckily I never asked about discount, would need to call for a Paramedic first.

The XE R does look good though, was not sure on the 20's but looked good in black.

At one point I expected the 'sir, the Toyota dealer is across the road'

Obnoxious bloody southerners (apologies to you from the area).

That's the "I'm pissed off having to work the bank holiday when nothing but dreamers will come into the sacred ground that is my showroom, I won't be polite to any of them as they are all time wasters who will never buy my mega premium product that I have decided they cannot afford" attitude.

Yes, but fairs fair.

The only time most Geordie's put on a suit, is to face the judge....

Almost identical to my treatment in an Audi garage, including the "no, you can't look in the boot, it's locked" part. When I asked for a car to be opened so we could actually sit in it, there was loud sighs of exasperation before the keys were finally located. So sorry to break up your idle chatter and actually ask you do do your job. We ended up just walking out straight past three sales people and nobody even said a word to us.

Luckily to date I have avoided Judges.

Mainly Station Commanders and Provost Marshals lol, neither expect you in anything else other than terror

However, it was very much that type of snobbery, I may have eluded to that one in my email.

Again, I have to ask the question, how are the people who sell the second biggest purchase most people will ever make after a house so utterly unprofessional.

Thinking about it, estate agents are similar. Only double glazing are consistently worse.

BMW dealers are not totally exonerated in this context.

Douglas Park, Glasgow. . . absolutely appalling!!

I've had crappy service from 2 local VW dealers when asking to buy a Golf R, I got told on the 3 occations i visited that 'we don't have a demo so you can't test drive, most people jusy buy the R without looking at one', 'we've sold the demo before it even arrived' and on my final ever visit to VW 'the sales manager has our demo, but he's on holiday, not sure when he's back?'.

Went to BMW asking about a M135i, was treated brilliantly and after a few questions was asked if i wanted a test drive, 'ooh yes please', and was told to just make sure the car was back before 4:30pm so the salesman could get home, it was only 10am!

It's all relative, Tamworth is South of Newcastle

Actually he was from down south or had previously been there, found that out from small talk.

I mentioned I had looked at the XF when it came out at Marshalls in Cambridge.

It's not exactly like we are talking small money either.

There was of course our F31 330d in EBII parked next to their stock that was getting slightly more interest.

Well you should know by now it's a privilege for you to be even considered for buying a jaguar.

For what it's worth have been advised the issue of dealers especially stratsone has been raised high up in jaguar.

Wonder how they'll cope when the oiks of the fleet market start buying Jaguars !!!

Nothing worse if you are unlucky enough to attract a poor sales person. It's amazing how different the experience can be when you get someone good.

It's been this way for years. When I got my XF I drove a colleagues car to decide I wanted one, then went into the Amersham dealer and was refused a test drive!

Mine came from Thames Ditton, the day I went into collect it (everything done over the phone) they ignored me for 20 minutes and clearly had me pegged as a dreamer.

As I went towards the coffee machine they then asked if they could help me. I have a sarcastic answer about helping myself followed by - can you have my car ready out front please.

I refused the handover and pleasantries after that and always contacted the fleet dept. to have it services.

Utter shite service but a lovely car.

Unfortunately, this was the sales service you got from most BMW dealerships 15 years ago....

Reminds me of a friend of my late fathers, going back perhaps 25 years. Self made man, who could write a cheque for any car in the dealership, but didn't like to advertise it. In fact, didn't like to advertise it so much, that he rarely wore anything else than jeans and a tee shirt. If you looked very hard, you might have noticed the understated watch (a PP IIRC), that cost more than most of the salesmen earnt in a year.

His sense of humour was such, that a particular favourite of his was winding the BMW dealers up. Usual story, goes in wanders round, ignored as an inconvenient dreamer. Eventually, someone would reluctantly attend to him, at which point he would ask if they did part ex? Expecting the part ex to be something nondescript and certainly not befitting of a BMW forecourt the response was it wasn't likely.

Undeterred, he would insist they took a look and give him a price. Of course he would have driven to the showroom in something exotic (I saw him in Ferrari, Aston, Bently over the years). The look on the salesman's face was apparently priceless as his jaw hit the deck and my old man's mate said he'd decided he had changed his mind and drove off.

Eventually, word got round and they stopped falling for the routine.

Specialist Cars Luton (BMW) were next to useless, even though I gave them more buying signals than I give when I'm in the supermarket checkout!

Luckily Riaz at Spire Watford looked like he gave a toss!
