Suggestions Wanted - Where can I go to wash my own car

Hi

I don't often get the chance to wash my cars myself, I'd like to but with family and work there isn't the time. Typically I'll look after the inside and just get the outside done at the local undocumented immigrant place

But now and then I'd like to get stuck in and spend a good few hours washing and polishing. However, when I do this at home I very rarely get the opportunity to get on with it without some sort of a distraction or another

So I've been thinking, I wonder if there is somewhere I could go to wash my car in my own space with a bit of quiet and no distractions! I'd happily pay to 'rent a bay' or something. But ideally I'd need a washing bay and some sort of covered drying area.... Of course I'd need water and power too...

Any thoughts on a suitable place??

Touchless Car Washes have individual bays you can use , seen a few about but never used one myself.

If we knew where you were based it may help with the replies.

I think your best bet is to let the local car wash to the dirty bit, then spend a few hours doing the wax and polish bit at home / an empty local car park or whatever.

I just find it too tedious these days. I paid the local wash £30 yesterday to do in and out, wax and polish. I'm under no illusion that it wasn't clay-barred and machine polished, but it is crystal clean and shiny and I haven't had to dirty my driveway or get my nails covered in brake dust..

Disconnect the land line, turn off the mobile , send the Mrs out shopping and then wash and detail your car.

It’s quite therapeutic to have a day off from the world.

Sainsbury's normally have a wash your own car bay with a jet wash. No ideas on cost though.

Depending on where you are it may be easier to pay someone to do it... as you're talking about renting a bay. There are plenty of mobile wash services.

By me there is a decent one starting from £30 for an inside and outside clean. Carries water... dyson vacuum...

Just a thought.

Have you used these yourself? Looking at the site and going though the options i cant see who is actually coming to wash the car which firm etc? or is that the actual firm?

Not this one. Google see who is around you and read reviews. I used a different one when I was off sick from work. My brother in law was coming around to wash it but then I felt bad and thought try something else... anyhow the guy did a great job. To my standards and wasn't rushed.

The other thing you might be able to consider is having a good wash done then maintaining it. Recently I tried amor all wash and wax wipes... they did a decent job. Obviously you wouldn't use these on a filthy car with a thick layer or grime as you would scratch the hell out of it.

Try go by recommendations if you can. Previously where I worked a guy would come around and offered this service. He was £15 outside only but booked him and it was worth it. Was seriously busy and couldn't have had time to do it... where I was I didn't have my buckets at the time.

You can also maintain a good clean with detailer spray and plenty of micro fibre towels.

A decent coat of something ceramic would help. Additional layer of protection and hopefully less effort required when cleaning.

Some useful suggestions thanks. Though my research and what's said here I've not found anywhere suitable so as suggested I think I'm looking for something that doesn't exist!

In these days of more flats/apartments and houses built without drives and parking at the rear, which seems to particularly please planners these days, perhaps there is a need for a 'venue' where people can go to wash their car.

Kind of a step up from the jet-wash at a garage, a place where you can hire a bay with all the kit for a chunk of time. It could be equipped with pro equipment and have plenty of space so you can open all the doors and have room to move.

Things like a covered drying area and even a ramp so you can drive up and work on alloys and sills without kneeling or bending double!

There used to be a serviced wash place near Derry where you drove up kind of a stack of breeze blocks so they could wash under the sills and arches. It was super dangerous but very effective!

Oh and no I'm not Lobb, I don't have anywhere near enough time for that sort of thing

I’m in a similar situation to your self want the car to be looked after but cannot spare the 2-3 hours each week cleaning the car so I’ve opted for a good detail, ceramic coating, new jet wash and a water filter which should cut it down to around about an hour.

Got it booked in for mid April so should make my life easier this summer!

I'm confused. You say with family and work there isn't time. But what you're proposing will take up more of your time than washing your car at home. Or is there something you're not telling us?

Like.. You get grief off the family (missus) if you was your car.

Or.. You have to park it five streets away from home.

No neither, sometimes I just want to spend some quality time with it, just me and the car, headphones on with some good music

If I try and do that at home there is always some distraction.... are you coming in for a coffee, mate arrives unannounced, neighbours want to chat. It's all fine but sometimes I feel I need a car version of an allotment so I can just bugger off and get stuck in

I have used 5 Star Valeting Solutions They cover a major part of the UK and I found that they tend to test all possible products and work with whatever works best in terms of valeting and detailing.

Is this a record? 2 years and 4 months since the last post. And doesn't address the OP's question either.

Random...

More to the point, how did this bot find the post...

These exact sorts of places used to exist many years ago... Like in the 60's and early 70's... you just rented the bays for as long as you needed and got on with it... Many folk in terraced streets, remember... and I particularly remember one we used to drive past on the outskirts of Bradford...

Cannot remember the last time I saw anything similar... They do sort of have wash centres in France, still...

I can see more and more this sort of thing coming back especially where water is scarce and can be recycled rather than going into drains... and then hose bans etc at home...
