so, let's say

manufacturers were found guilty of breaching EU6 or some such

would there be big ramifications? or a US/EPA thing only ?

The EU are starting their own investigation.

I'll be rubbing my hands with glee if they are found guilty of something major

This is sizing up to be the automotive equivalent of the banking scandals.

Did you know VW sales have collapsed by 35% over the last week?

I think you are forgetting who pays for the EU. The chance of them doing anything which severely damages German companies is vanishingly small. You don't bite the hand that feeds you...

I know what you're saying.

BUT.

If public opinion runs counter to VW's interests, and the collapse of their car sales over the last week suggests it might. Today's fickle, focus group politicians may jump on the bash VW bandwagon.

There is also a huge amount of anti vehicle, anti diesel. Anti car, pro electric, pro bike etc lobby that will look for any chance to kick car manufacturers and big corporations in the nuts.

Also markets like China are incredibly fickle and will believe VW are poisoning them if told so.

VW could have totally lost its North American slice of the pie.

The tests are a nonsense anyway. Performing emissions tests in laboratory type conditions tell you nothing and if you enjoy driving you won't go through the gears slowly and at lower revs just to get an extra 200 yards from a tank of diesel. You might even exceed 56mph occasionally where it is legal to do so.

Do you have a thread about your battle with BMW? I love a good read of someone elses misfortune.

I don't have a separate thread lol

& it's more me being naive about the care big companies give, as demonstrated on a large scale

It's not misfortune for me, didn't lose much money

An apology would have sufficed at the initial stage , but what got me, was the principle of them avoiding admission

They've cost themselves more in legal fees than I ever lost

So I was doing it out of principle , now I'm just hoping something on a bigger scale is revealed so I can rub my hands with glee at their misfortune

The VW stuff is actually a good analogy

essentially - sold stuff based on false info

however since I'm not EPA they can fob me off

so hence I feel it's endemic to lie so long as there's no ramifications beyond annoying one customer

At the moment there's every possibility that other manufacturers could be involved and that VW Group could be in trouble globally not just the US. Furthermore saw in the news today there's murmurings that petrol vehicles could also be involved, though no evidence to support this claim. So this whole thing has the potential to explode....will be interesting to see how it unfolds
