Coming from 335d, would I be happy?
So, I've got a 335d right now, and I absolutely love the car, but as I did buy it as a highway car, its getting up in the mileage (80k today, after 30 months and I bought it brand new).
Debating what to go to next, loved the fuel economy, wouldn't mind a bit more... and wouldn't mind the stock power that I had (so if a chip were out for the 320... i think I'd be okay)... Just want some owners opinions... |

I think it is too large of a power come down from a 335D to a 320D. Even if you chip the 320, it will not quite be enough.
You could test drive it and see.

I did consider going from 335d to 320d, if you want commute car with good fuel consumption go for vw tdi, otherwise 335i.
Test drive it tough, 320d may work for you.

Another friend with a 335d like yours just told me he's throwing in the towel waiting for BMW to do the right thing. Even though your current 2011 335d engine (and his - as well as others in Europe) will be available in the USA in the 2014 5 series, its a bigger car than he wants or needs. "I just ordered a new Audi Q5 with the 3.0 diesel. 240 horse, 420 ft pounds torque and 8 speed auto. Drove one and very impressive. Q5 is smaller than a Toureg VW and very agile." |

I have F31 320D and the dynamic is good enough (coming from Q7 3.0 TDI with power box 270 HP 600NM).
Now in Europe you can order 325d - 216HP (probably 328d called in US) - also 4 cilinder version, 6.8 sec 0-60 . The real fuel consumption for mine is 5.6 litre/100km average. |

Burger Motorsports told me the JBD would work out-of-the-box on a 320/8d. So it really is up to you, depends on why you originally bought a d.

I'm looking seriously at a 328d, as well as a VW TDI. In terms of refinement, the 328d is light years ahead of the VW. The 8 speed auto is a nice pairing to the N47. The 6 speed dsg of the VW is nice, but not as refined and smooth.
I'm no longer seriously looking at the 328d, I bought it!!! It's a great ride. No, it's not the fastest 3 series around, but it is quick. Last edited by glangford; 10-27-2013 at 06:03 AM.. |

We have a 335d that we're keeping & have a 328/320d on order. Been driving a 328d as a loaner the past week. It's got enough power. Cruises nice & holds the road good on the A-bahn too. Suggust you take one out for a weekend & see for yourself. Just doing a test drive isn't enough.

I own a 335D and just picked up a 328D...wow!
Love the car... It feels so much more refined than my 2011. Handles better with the 4 cylinder tucked behind the front axle. Ride is excellent, MPG is amazing, and I don't even miss the power. |

Get a 328d with a chip and it will be on point with the old 335d in the power department.
