Hey, it's your ride and your dollars. But a car's aesthetics can be mutually independent of your love for it. Until recently I owned a 2005 Nissan Xterra. Thing was a beast, loved it, great for off roading and camping and muddy dogs. Definitely wouldn't call it sexy though.

But what I don't understand (and this opinion is seemingly shared by the automotive press, for whatever their opinion is worth) is why anyone would buy the 3GT when the F31 exists. Ostensibly the reason someone buys a 3GT is for the space, but the wagon has about the same space, it's more useful since the shape is less awkward, the rear glass pops up separate, it is lighter, it handles nicer, and looks infinitely better. In the US I guess the argument can be made that the 3GT doesn't limit you to the N20, but fuck at that rate I'd rather drive a late model E90 335i and pick up a decent used small SUV for hauling shit.
I don't like the GT, but I think people buy it because it has an extended wheel base with a larger back seat.

I used to think the 318ti was the worst looking, but I think this takes the prize. I don't think the GTs are THAT bad.

This. At 6'-6" and with tall sons, I gave it a half minute of consideration. I love the long wheelbase!

My book. New standard 7 series comes in 1st with all of its nasty chrome bits, 5 GT 2nd, 3 GT 3rd, X4 comes in 4th, and the 435i vert in lux trim comes in 5th.

+1. 7 series comfort at a 3 series price, SUV utility that doesn't look like a toaster. You want good looks? Get a Z4. You want practicality? Get a 3GT.

My dad was looking for a 7 seater and there aren't too many options in Europe. Ended up with a Kia Carens, but this BMW definitely fills a niche over there. It's very cheap for a BMW, but for the price it's very bare too. The Kia has a ton of options, same as a loaded F30. My dad doesn't care about drivetrain, sportiness or looks. This BMW is based on a mini platform and is FWD.

Not an enthusiast's car but an every day family car.

In the US if you want a 7 seater you end up with a tank. Tanks are not too popular in Western Europe anymore.

I had a gentleman proudly announce to me the other week that he had a 5GT msport, making sure to explain the msport part to me...I was wearing my M tshirt at the time...so some people do like them...I thing the 5GT is the worst personally, I don't mind the 3GT...and the smaller ones like the I3 and 2 aren't really meant to be sexy cars anyway...so I can forgive the less appealing looks

Some people are so put off by the stigma of a wagon that they'll buy a "GT" series car to avoid it. Personally, something like a RS6/4 wagon is up there as the most practical and bada$$ vehicle for me, and you can get an F31 that at least doesn't suck and looks decent, but it reverts back to the stigma IMO. I'd be interested to see where they sell these GT monstrosities, I doubt many in Yurp, just like how here in the US subaru had to make a hack-job sedan out of the 2008 STI, because "american buyers" won't go for a hatchback. I was real close between the GC and the F31, the hatch of the GC and the overall shape was attractive, but the F31 was as well. On a different day, I might have ordered an F31 instead of a GC. It was maybe a protest-buy too, since they aren't doing any 335 F31 in the US, which if they were offering, I would have ordered.

Anyways, I hope they fired that designer/team, or at least slapped them around a few times.
