I would assume OP had a budget to stick to. You can obviously buy used F30s for a lot less than F8X's. That means more money available for crazy projects like this.

This question always comes out. People should pay attention to peoples location. From what I hear, F8x's in eastern countries are way overpriced. Even with this big project you're still way under of what an F8x would cost over there.

What happened to your crank shaft? Looks like it got way too hot at the journals or is it tempered like that from the factory? Where do you get the octane from? Dual CM5 100% meth does not sound like much on 91.

How is the tuning going? Cool you are onboard here also

Well to answer the F8x question, here in Egypt it would be much cheaper for me to mod my 335i than buy an F8x, since the customs to import a car is close to 150% it just makes more sense for a lot cheaper plus I like being different and having a sleeper of sorts

Im pretty sure that's how the crank shaft was tempered from the factory as everything looked fine while taking the engine apart. Fueling wise I am going to try and see how much I can gain on just 91 octane with Pi and 100% meth and go from there, but I will also have a full out race map running e50-e85 but for the mean time might have to change out the CM5's to CM7's

Sorry didn't see that, I went with stock compression ratio and no to the stroker as I didn't want to go through any machining as I don't trust machine shops here in Egypt.

Low comp pistons not available? With only 91 and such a big turbo you should definitely have gone low comp!

I have and will run e85 just not for my daily map so stock compression should be fine in that case plus low compression pistons were not available at the time

Stroker doesn't need machining (bore), it's just rod/piston/crankshaft.

Stroker have many benefits - 1) reduced boost for same flow so less octane required, 2) improved off/low boost power/torque response, and 3) lastly and the most importantly less turbo lag at any rpm.

If you have enough octane, stroker don't necessarily add peak power, but benefits above can justify give you're already installing new rod and piston.

Well you are right, it would require custom pistons, rods, and crankshaft which would be way over my budget. Plus I was talking to a couple engine builders and they said if anything these engines need to be destroked so they could rev higher and effectively increase the usable rpms as bigger turbos spool much later but this was in the case of the n54 as no one has done it on an n55.

It's going.. Still in early stages. This turbo is definetly a beast to spool. At just 14-15psi it's making similar amounts of airflow to the engine for a PS2 PWG at around 16.5 around the same RPMs. Bottleneck will probably be the flow rate of the head at this point.

Should easily be at PS2 93 octane power levels for a similarly tuned car, at just "stage 1" levels of boost on 91

With just a few tweaks, turbo is making target boost ( 13psi ) by 4200rpm. Can probably have a spool a bit earlier if we wanted to. For now waiting for a good base map to dial in some basics before we start adding fuel and turning it up.

Thought about adding MILV now that you are at it?

Looking at this pic is the block sleeved because it appears so and which sleeve did you use? I know VTT uses sleeves in their custom rebuilds.

Finally what are the hp goals ? Appears we are looking at a motor build that should be capable to exceed 700whp easily.

This motor will be equivalent to a built S55 motor equipped with the same pistons and rods you are using. Love this!

I would suggest the TFFS high volume fuel pump while you are at it.

I wish it was sleeved but thats just the head gasket, but my goals for this build are around 700whp which I am hoping to be able to achieve on e85
