Need Rennline phone mount holder! I just installed mine, really like it - better than blocking the vents

Thanks for the suggestion but I actually purposely have my phone mounted in front of a vent so I can blow cold air at it. I've tried several different mounts that wirelessly charge my phone (requirement for me), but since I don't have apple car play and I use my phone for music and navigation it tends to overheat while it qi charges.

Another reason I like the placement is that it's near eye level and is easily accessible, not out of reach or somewhere where I'd have to take my eyes off the road. Having it right under my idrive screen is nice too, It's like a little dual monitor set up, music on the idrive and google maps on my phone.

Lastly, I like my current mount because it's one of those motorized ones, so you just tap the side of it with your finger and it will automatically squeeze/release your phone. I find it much more convenient than a manual release version, and it's more sturdy than a magnetic mount which can drop your phone when taking sharp turns or when hitting bumps in the road.

Is it perfect? Definitely not, I can see that it's in the way or some things, but after using it and getting accustomed to it I have it perfectly positioned where the only things it really actually blocks are the first 3 radio preset buttons and the CD player, things that I don't ever use anyway. Everything else is still accessible from the drivers seat. If the passenger wants to lower the volume, tough shit

Fair enough!
Liking your progress. I'll be doing full F80 M3 steering wheel swap along with the M1/M2 red iND buttons that will control the drive modes . Can't wait

Nice! Details?

I actually got a new steering wheel as well because I'm doing a paddle shifter retrofit and don't want to drill my current 6MT wheel. I chose the M sport version with the stock trim because I like the black stitching and the silver accents, however, I did m3 paddles for a little OEM+ flair

A guy on here created a retrofit kit, plug and play!: https://mnlasercutting.com/shop/p/bm...12-buttons-kit

I purchased iND red buttons separately as I like their products and know they will last.

That MSport steering wheel looks mint! I wanted the tri-stitch and hope the wheel itself is a little thicker.

Purchased!

I went with the blue buttons but might swap for the oem black if they look too tacky. Will have to see when they arrive.

I had an M2 and I'm pretty sure the steering wheels are identical thickness to the M sport but I'm not 100% sure. I couldn't tell the difference personally but maybe there is a slight one.

Nice build Andrew! Great, thorough progress updates too! If you were out here in Cali, I'd hit you up for help on a couple things! Ha Ha! I'm eventually going to drop my 328d f31 xdrive wagon, and since wifey drives it occasionally, I'd like to do the front camera too. I recently had knee surgery and I'm limited in my ability to kneel and crouch down. Keep up the good work!

Thanks! I try to DIY all of my modifications but I had the front and rear cameras professionally installed because those projects were a little too involved and "beyond my pay grade" so to speak. Wishing you a speedy recovery

Waiting on a M1/M2 button retrofit kit and won't install my new steering wheel with paddles till that comes in. In the meantime, I changed my mind yet again and got a gloss black start/stop button. Not sure if I will keep yet, might go back to silver.

Oddly I too am waiting on the M1/M2 harness to arrive. I did install my M1/M2 buttons and F8x M3 paddles on my steering wheel to get an idea of how to disassemble everything. I was about to swap in an F80 M3 steering wheel as well, but the condition of the wheel wasn't up to my standards :/. So, it's for sale until I find another one that I can swap in.

I have the Gloss Red Start/Stop and M1/M2 buttons now from iND. I am very tempted by 6WB Digital Cluster

Great progress so far!

Thank you! I'm going with the OEM buttons because I'm trying to keep the car OEM+. Also really hope my car is prewired for paddles, lol. I want to do the 6wb retrofit as well, it's pobably next on the chopping block once the steering wheel is on.

Replaced the old and dirty chrome exhaust tip with a matte silver version to better match the rest of the car. Both tips are OEM.

Yes, but it takes a little elbow grease. At first I pulled straight back with my hands and nothing happened so I started thinking I'd need a rubber mallet or trim removal tool, but once I started twisting side to side as I pulled it came right off. No tools needed.

Okay cool, i'll probably hit it with WD40, small block of wood and rubber mallet on the backside. Then pull/twist.

Looks good!

Finally got my functional M buttons kit from MNLaserCutting. The reason there are no buttons at the moment is because I plan to buy some OEM buttons off a forum member instead of going with the colorful aftermarket look. Should have the wheel on and the paddle shifter retrofit done by this weekend.

Got my fresh M sport wheel installed today, which has OEM M1/M2 buttons, OEM M3 Paddles, and the functional M button kit from mnlasercutting. Now I just have to train myself to stop taking my hands off the wheel to switch driving modes and gears

Added some OEM 50th-anniversary roundels. Did the hood and trunk so far, waiting on the knock-off wheel and airbag parts from amazon (can't buy those OEM for F30).

Got some knockoff 50th-anniversary wheel and airbag roundels today. I didn't use the trunk and hood pieces they sent since I went OEM for those (not sure the fake ones would've fit my car anyways). For $30 I'm not mad, they're pretty close to OEM. You also won't ever see more than one up close at once, so not an issue regardless.

Just ordered some more 50 Jahre parts: OEM License plate frame and valve stem caps from BMW, and new 3rd party wheel and airbag roundels that look more OEM than what I currently have.

Edit: the 3rd party stuff wasn't to my liking so I kept my amazon roundels and airbag logo as is.
