Lowering f30 328i

Have a 2016 328i rwd, want to get a aodhan aff7 wheels,
19,8.5 et35. With 245/35
19, 9.5 et35. With 275/30

Trying to go with wider tires and also go lower but not too low just flush/clean look. but I want to know if anyone else has lowered their car on coilovers with similar dimension of wheels and tires. And also get recommendations on good set of coilovers.

Nitto 245/35ZR20 on 9.5wide Velgen wheel Front
Nitto 275/30ZR20 on 10.5 Velgen wheel Rear

The car has H&R lowering springs Front and rear. The rear has a mild stretch to clear the fender but still rubs on bumps. The front will rub the inside fender well when the wheels are locked.

I did an exhaustive personal wheel search last year (thanks again to Alohasurftoad for all his amazing help) and the Aodhan AFF7 was my pick as the low price bang for the buck winner. Great design, great price and low weight.

I also evaluated coilovers. Most coilovers, especially in the lower price range are junk with low end materials that rust quickly. And they do a poor job of matching shocks and springs so they usually ride stiff/harsh.

KW stands out with stainless steel construction and a great ride. KW are not inexpensive. But KW owns ST Suspensions which produces the same coilovers except with galvanized steel no-rust materials. So ST is often $1,000 less than KW for the same features and ride.

See ST models and part numbers at the link below. I recommend the ST XA which is the equivalent of the KW V2, which is adjustable for comfort. If it’s out of your price range there is the less expensive ST X which is the equivalent of the KW V1.

After you get your coilovers and new wheels & tires installed, make sure to get an alignment done.

Then measure yourself for spacers. Tie some washers to one end of a 2+ foot long piece of string. Use blue painters tape to tape the other end of the string to the fender so that the washers hang in front of the center wheel cap. Then just measure in millimeters the distance from the fattest part of the tire sidewall to the string. That’s the thickness of wheel spacer needed for a perfectly flush look.

I recommend the Turner Big Pad spacers. Other brands have diameters that look too small.

Good luck. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for the information, I am going with the st-xa coilovers, i wanted to get a good set of kw coilovers but they are but out of my price range. Also I was wondering do you think I will need spacers for the front or the rear wheels?

Excellent choice! With those wheels and offsets you should be very close to not needing any spacers. If you do it would be small.

Perhaps Alohasurftoad will comment. His estimates are uncanny.

I have a different setup and I only needed 3mm and 5mm spacers which are tiny. Less than 1/8” and less than 1/4” but surprisingly it made a visual difference. It had to do with the curve of the fender lip, the curve of the tire and the tilt of how the tire was aligned. It’s more visually obvious as the tire/fender gap is reduced. Just that very little change of moving the wheel/tire a smidge outward, seemed to close the gap slightly to make it more visually appealing.

Hope this helps!

no rear spacer is required, since 275 @ ET35 will poke slightly. you'll need at least a 7.5mm spacer upfront to not quite match the rear poke. a 12.5 will match it however, the increased scrub radius will cause increased turn radius and also a possibility of rubbing while turning full lock, albeit very slim.

sure, whole car/front closeup/rear closup. Ohtsu on the front were swapped out with NITTOs at 55k miles and still going strong. Currently at 107k miles.

I've run this setup cross country twice. Main, Florida, San Diego, Oregon and it rubs but holds up. I got 40k on the rears but changed them out last month, I'm at 52k miles on the fronts since the install.

Thank you so much, I think I will go with 7.5mm spacer in the front, I do know that ThicWhips has it listed on his site that he ran niche wheels with et35 in the front with 235/35/19 and used 12mm spacers. I am most likely going with 7.5mm spacers due to just liking the slight poke in the back only.
