BMW F33 4 Series Convertible Goes Riding Topless For 1st Time and Exposes Interior
BIMMERPOST NEWS BMW F33 4 Series Convertible Drives Topless for First Time and Exposes Interior We bring you the first ever look at the F33 3 Series convertible (or 4 Series as it may be called when released) in testing with its hardtop roof retracted. The F33 largely shares the same proportions with the current E93 3 series convertible, although like the rest of the new F3x 3 series generation of cars, it will have slightly shorter overhangs, a longer wheelbase, and a bit more rear legroom. These photos also represent the first clear look at the interior of the F33 convertible, which, from what can be seen, looks largely the same as the F30 3 series sedan, with the rear view mirror being different. We also notice something curious about the front seats, however. They are different than the ones last spotted in the recent F33 spy photos demonstrating the folding hardtop (reposted below). The front seats in the previous F33 spied are a sportier/bulkier design, similar to the ones in the 6-series. So, BMW may still be deciding between different seat designs, or perhaps there will even be different seat options. The exterior is still heavily camouflaged (no, the round rear lights aren't there to stay but just part of the camouflage as they allow BMW to hide the real rear lights design while meeting legal requirements for street safety), so it's still difficult to make out the final design. However, we expect the F33 (and F32 coupe) to be loosely based on the current F30 3-series sedan yet showing a more sportier, sleeker, and somewhat unique design. The U.S. F32 coupe and F33 convertible lineup will most likely include the N20 2.0-liter turbo inline four and the N55 3.0-liter turbo inline six currently used for the F30 3-series sedan. Perhaps both engines get a small power bump to reflect the upmarket approach of the F33 4 Series convertible. There's also been grumblings of a possible replacement for the N55 engine soon, but that's pure speculation for now. Expect the F33 to be available in Spring 2014. Follow our 3 series / 4 series spy photos @ http://www.bimmerpost.com/3-series/spyshots/ Previous spied F33 convertible, showing folding hard top mechanism and sportier seats. And previous photos showing the F33 with top up. |

Looks like you can do some serious off-roading with that suspension.

There is a blurb over at Autospies that claims the 4 series will get a radically different new engine.

The sun was out today in the EU after all the rain recently. What a great excuse to take the new baby out for a spin.
The way they are slouched in the seats makes it look like 2 dudes out in their lunch break who happened to stumble upon the keys As an engineer by trade I'm interested to know what this type of test is for ? I don't see any monitoring equipment ? Last edited by The English Guy; 05-10-2012 at 01:23 PM.. |

What is the point of 4 series? Just to fill the gap between convertible 3ers and 6ers?
<sarcasm> BMW, may I also suggest making 0 series (for people who feel 1ers are too big) and 9 series, just to one up the S class and A8. </sarcasm> |

What I want to see is how much different the coupe is from the sedan. IMO, I think BMW did a great job with the E92/E93 in differentiating it from the E90. I don't want it to be like the C-Class where the coupe was basically the sedan minus two doors.

I was really hoping for an interior more like the 6 series. Now I am depressed.

Maybe the other seats will make it into the m3/m4?

If you recall when the E9X was introduced, the sedan was launched as 325 and 330. Both of these has NA I6 engines. Then when the coupe and cabrio were launched, they introduced the N54. Could be the same strategy as the N55 is slowly losing its performance edge.
